Post GoPro hero (HD) for Beginners Guide! Tips & Tricks

This is a Beginners Guide for the new GOPRO Hero (HD) Motorsports helmet cam. I just recieved my camera early yesterday, and I spent countless hours trying to figure out how to use, set up, and change the camera and parts without destroying anything. The directions are understandable, but pretty useless, and leave out a ton of details! So im gonna fill some of them in for you, and provide pictures for easy understanding.

Before I add anything, I found this 22 minute GOPRO HD quick training video that was extremely helpful for me, and should help you get started with your camera.

GOPRO HD Quick Start Training pt. 1 of 3
GOPRO HD Quick Start Training pt. 2 of 3
GOPRO HD Quick Start Training pt. 3 of 3

1. The first video talks talks about the Comparison with the standard Hero camera and the new HD Hero.
2. The second video explains the HD Hero menu system
3. The Third video Introduces the High Definition features, tips and tricks.
___________

Next, Im going to explain more about the accessories, assembly, mounting, and other little tips. Im not going to get into the menu system. Refer to video 2 to learn the menu buttons and icons.

1. Heres an overlook of the camera and all the parts along with it. I had 5 total adhesive mounts, but I put two of them on my helmet prior to this photo. -

From Right to Left, Top to Bottom - You have your:
1. USB Cord - Use for charging your camera and to load videos onto your PC.
2. Red, Blue, Green tv plugs for a High Definition TV
3. Red, White, Yellow tv plugs for your basic Standard Definition TV
4. GOPRO Camera
5. Waterproof Camera Housing
6. Open Back Door (non waterproof, louder sound)
7. Sealed Back door (waterproof, Wind (noise) resistant past 100mph)
8. Suction Cup mount
9. Side mount Pivot Arm
10. Quick Release Buckle
11. Verticle-Surface Release Buckle
12. Buckle Lock
13. Adheisive mounts
______

Starting with the camera parts. Installing Memory Card - Make sure memory card is fully pushed in and locked like in the picture. You have to really push this card in fully for it to lock in place. Without the memory card in, this camera is rendered useless.

Looking onto the other side of the camera. You will see 3 ports. From top to bottom,
1- HDTV - This port is for watching your videos on your High Definition TV.
2- USB - Loading and watching your videos/images onto your computer
3- TV/sound - This port is for watching your videos on a Standard Definition tv. This is also how you add sound while watching onto a High Definition TV. *See following photos*
Note- (Had to rotate this photo. Don't let it throw you off)

Next. From Right to Left- USB Cord, HDTV cord, SDTV Cord.

Note- If you plan to hook up to an HDTV. Your 3 HD cords are all video cords. In order to enable sound, you also have to connect your two Red and White SDTV cords to your tv. Don't worry about the yellow one.

I pre installed the battery before taking these pictures. There is a small tab on the battery case for opening. Push tab in hard and case will pop right open. No need to pry against it.

______

Onto the the Camera housing. Only thing I wanted to add here was how to change the back doors on the case. In the picture below, you can see a little open tab that the door pops into. When you get your camera, and the waterproof door is already installed, its nearly impossible to see this open gap. To pull off door - Pull door open all the way in the opposite direction of closed, and pull away from camera housing. It fits on there very tight, so don't be afraid to add some force to it.

_______
Camera mounting info and tips - When you get your new camera, the Quick Release buckle will already be attached to the camera. When you have your camera clipped into your adheisive mount, make sure to put in the little orange rubber peice between the clip. this ensures your camera will stay on and will not unbuckle itself.

With Camera housing screwed in -

Note- if any of the pivot thumb screws are not getting tight enough by hand, use phillips screw driver to give them an extra turn.
__________
In the next picture, you see three adheisive mounts, and the suction cup mount. The suction cup is very strong and difficult to take off once applied. If you can not remove the suction cup after installing, take a flat head screwdriver and lightly pry underneath the cup. Be careful not to do any damage to the rubber.

_______

Mounting Tips - One thing you do not want is your adheisive mount flying off with your camera because you didn't put the pad on correctly. The directions mention nothing about applying these pads. So to be safe, Make sure you wipe your helmet clean, and use a rubbing alcohol or other chemical to rid the grease and dirt from your mounting area. (I stuck my helmet in front of a heater and let the plastic get very warm before I applied the adheisive mounts. (If you plan on never removing these pads, a couple drops of superglue on the pad probably isn't a bad idea.)

That is it for now. I hope this has helped some of you out. And saved you lots of time, most importantly. Any other input, tips or tricks, please add.
No riding videos up yet, not in any physical health to be riding today .

The one thing I keep wondering about on the helmet mount is I would like to know for sure that the camara is still there after a ride. Maybe a safety tether or mount it in the front somewhere where you can keep in in the periferal vision. Absolutly awsome camara.

What I was going to do is just attach a peice of fishing line with 1 loop on one side and a fishing line clip on the other. You could throw the loop around the helmet visor bolt, and for the camera, drag the little clip through an opening and just hook it back over the line. It sounds a little redneck, but you would know if that camera ever came off, and you wouldn't loose it.

No prob . I was looking for good info and pics on these cameras for awhile now, but couldn't find anything besides those 3 videos, which I would of never figured out the menu without it. The menu system is just plain retarted! But once you get it down, its very simple!

If there's one thing they should upgrade for next year..... I'd say it should be a brand new set of instructions!

just curious on prices?

But is this a good deal for a hero wide? This guy can't seem to sell them at this price. He has new auctions up as soon as the others end.

Haha. Be sure to post up your videos here so we can see them! I been wanting to test it out on the quad, just haven't gotten around to it yet.

Kxrida, It said the Ad was removed, so no info came up for it. If its not the HD camera, than they probably aren't gonna sell many of them, unless they are going for really cheap.
