Getting there

finally got to work on the 300 some. some things have changed since i started the rebuild. i never did build my bigger oven so i had to paint the frame instead of powder coat it but everything else will be powder coated. also the paint i picked out is not what the sample looked like. it was suppose to be a real dark red almost a burgandy. will start stripping the quad tomorrow and powder coating what will go on this frame. also have to put a top end in the motor. will do the a-arms tomorrow and mount them with the front shocks. also have to recoat the swinger since i want it a lot darker red. here is a pic of the frame with a few powder coated parts on it.

this is the quad as it sits now, everything here will be transfered to the other frame.

well ran into a problem last night. took the upper a-arms off and was going to get them ready to powder coat today. wasnt sure if the heim joints would take the 400 degree heat of the oven so tried to remove them from the a-arms. the threads were froze in the a-arm. i tried everything, wd-40, heated the a-arm but nothing worked. i broke one of the heim joints trying to remove them. about half the threads stayed in the a-arm. i drilled it most of the way out and will pick up a tap today and hopefully can rethread it.

a little more progress. got the heim end that broke off out and threaded again. got the top a-arms powdered and 1 bottom. tops are firestone red with clear and silver metal flake in the clear. bottoms are just firestone red with no flakes. also got the shocks bolted on and 1 spindle powdered extreme chrome.

you can see the flake a little in this pic

another of frame

sorry to say it will be at least a week before i can do anymore. my air compressor broke down friday and they said it would take a week for the part to come in. may go ahead and tear the motor down and order the piston kit for it and clean it up real good and go ahead and put the bottom end in the frame. if any of you have ever pulled a 300 motor you know what a pain they are to get back in. may be easier with the top end off. keep watching, i was going to use this quad as a pit bike since my son has moved up to the hybrid but may sell it when its done to get me a 4X4 quad.

they hook up too good. with the stock swing arm the quad wheelies out of the gate. hope to get a longer swinger soon but not sure as i am just going to use this as a pit bike and a back up in case the hybrid breaks down. at least my son could ride this one to get his points in the series we are running.
