I run Amsoil 0w-40 and it is the schiz! I also run the Amsoil oil filters too. A little more expensive but you don't have to mess with it as much.

AmsOil is GREEAATT!!! Makes everything so much smoother. Just make sure it's wet clutch compatable.

I use the Homelite brand, I found the steel wool thing doesnt work for my application & panty hose are cheaper

is it ok to use mobil 1 red cap with a hotcam i have heard u shouldnt use synthetic oil with a hotcam

Posted by: ridefastrgetoff

We use 10w-40 and we change it every 8 races. I have done oil analysis on the oil, yes after races, and it just starting to fall off a bit at 10 races, so we stick to 8 races and feel very comfortable with it. A huge money saver after just a few months. The Amsoil filters are great too; 4 micron filters are not easy to come by - Mobil's are between 10 - 20 microns and that is a major difference.

How much is the mobil1 redcap and where can i get it?

Walmart $5 a quart.

Good stuff.

and no it won't hurt a hotcam....

Amzoil is the best! I also used there oil in my truck and its great. You can go 25,000 miles or one year before you have to change the oil. Can't Beat that!

Posted by: skemp

Amsoil gets my vote. It lasts longer and runs smoother. I wouldn't run it if I didn't think it was a superior oil.
It is funny that you mention putting steel wool into the filter housing. I saw that at work on Monday. You wouldn't believe some of the redneck engineering that I see at the shop sometimes. By the way, Mobil 1 is also good.

Just got sponsored by Motorex so I'll be giving that a run, before that it had been Motul 15w/50 blended.

Posted by: BeltSlipper

Amsoil 20W-50. You can't beat it!!
I work for Mobil and I'm not high on their oil for quads. I recommend Amsoil!!!!!!

Silkolene!

Posted by: ridefastrgetoff

so many of you are believers in Amsoil and are firm believers in what they have to offer. Great to hear from you !

Mobile 1 15w-50 red cap with stock filter. I had some "Fram" filters now....so I will be running them. Anyone else on here run a Fram filter???

Posted by: infantry317

I just used a Fram oil filter for the first time on the 416. They appear very well made and you get a new o-ring with each one.

Posted by: 2002400ex

i use k&n performance gold oil filters and mobil 1 15w50

Posted by: 250rmike

i dont have a 400ex but in my r i use klotz and have had no problems with it. accually i ran klotz in my premix for a long time then went out riding one day with the same jetting but with honda premix oil in teh smae mixture and the bike burnt a whole through the piston. im not saying itis the fault of the oil cause i will still use the honda oil but i am just saying that i beleive klotz is a quality oil
