Are front sand tires worth the money for a stock 400ex do they make that much differcents if so which one are the best.

I want to get some when I have the lil bit o extra money, but without em, the front end kinda drifts when you make tight turns, It's a lil bit trickier to stay in tight sand trails without em! if you have some extra money layin around, I'd say get em! later!

ya they help, more for looks, but they help a little, go with skat trak mohawks or smooth buffs

the only thing about sand tires is that if u get stuck on a hill ur tires wotn grab the sand and stop u and ur front breaks are basically usless

Front sand tires do help. They are much smoother than the stock tire. This allows the tire to skim across the sand without actually "digging" into the sand. They do look cool, but they also have a purpose.

However, I run stock tires on the sand and seem to work well.

The stock tires work just fine.

Your front brakes won't be useless with sand tires because the sand is so soft, your tires usually dig in all the way up the sidewall. Smooth surface or not, your tires will sink and help you stop.

I hadn't thought about the braking on a hill issue. What about while backing down a hill?

I've never had any problems with my front Shark Fin tires with stopping on hills. If you get stuck while climbing a hill, your back tires are dug down so why do you need the brakes

If you lean your weight forward while backing down the hill, the fronts will lockup and slide a couple feet depending on your speed, but they don't have any problems getting you halted.

Try this, start rolling forward down a hill and mash the front brake lever. When you finally get your head pulled out of the sand, let me know if the front tires stop you alright.

My front dune tires (smooth with angled out center rib) stop me just fine. And even when backing down a steep hillclimb they will stop you just fine. The friction from the sand is what really stops you, but I've never had a problems. While riding, they definitely help for high speed and sharp turns. They keep the front end from pushing (sliding) out. After riding with them, I'd never want to go without them again.

agreed...I love my Mohawks and felt aa noticable difference over stock tires,it all deopends on how much sand riding youwill be doing on if its cost effective too.........
