I'm thinking of going to rasor dunes near death valley in CA and I was wandering how big the dunes are and how big the riding area is and allso wheather or not I should run paddles because I heard there was some dirt out there

It's called Dumont Dunes and I believe they have the tallest or steepest dunes in the West coast. It is small compared to something like glamis, but PLEANTY of riding area. Believe me it is a lot less crowded than Glamis and I believe it is about 7x5 miles of dune area. Paddels work no problem all over the place.

There is actually a dune area called Rasor Dunes, and it is not Dumont. Never been there though. Here is the info I have on it:

quote:

Rasor OHV Recreation Area
Motorcycle, 4WD, ATV, Dune Buggy / Sand Rail
Located 45 mi. northwest of Barstow on Rasor Road. Sand washes and dunes, mesquite thickets. Designated "Open Area" consisting of 22,500 acres.
