how many watt lights???

I want to add some lights for desert racing and I was wondering how many watts I can safely run without messing anything up...thanks

I think its somewhere around 35 watts each(2) so a total of 70 watts.-darren

You'll have to upgrade your stator to get any good lighting for desert racing. I'll second that it's 70w total.

A stock 400ex stator puts out 147 watts. You need 35w x 2 (70w) for the headlights, 5w for the tail light, and 2w for the neutral indicator light. That leaves 70w to charge the battery. I do not know the exact requirements for the charge circuit so it's hard to say what other draw you can safely put on the stock stator.

Having said all that, I currently run 2 additional 20w (40w total) lights on my 400ex and have not had any problems with the battery not charging.
