Thats a damn hill...
Posted by: TCracin440ex
id never try anything like that.....for some reason i dont get my jollies off spending 5 k or more on a quad to watch it flip down a hill....
Posted by: Rescueme
I agree with TC. Things never fall up, they always fall DOWN....

I agree with the word small.
What is it about a 50-55 degree incline?
About 100-110 feet tall?
That would kick *** on an R.. Rap it up and dump the clutch on 3rd with the front tires rite at the botom of the hill.
I would not call it a hill on any of my 4X4 quads though. Not steep enough to be a chalenge on them.
Posted by: marksuttonjr
I also want to know where that hill is. Since you are from KY and say it is near you (in your back yard) I might have to come climb it in person sometime. I'm in Southwestern Indiana so most places in KY are not much of a drive.

Rico, would you be talking about this "king kong" hill? If I remember right, its close to 800ft I think. This picture DOES NOT show how steep it really gets...especially around the middle of the climb...
BTW, this hill is in Logan, WV.
Posted by: MOFO
This photo gives ya a better idea on how steep it really is...

dats a babee hilll
me an my litttl bro wooodchukee go up biggger ones den dat

Posted by: Kilabanshee
Yeah that hill doesnot look all that hard just that fact is you gotta have a strong motor to get up it cause all you will do is just bog down. If i come up to h/m ill hit that ish second gear on my ex. Yeah i thinks it just really the balls you got, how big is the run before that?? If there isnot to much i can see why its such a hard climb.
Posted by: MOFO
I'm pretty damn sure your 2nd gear aint gonna be enough on a 416EX....you'll come up short.
Your right about 1 think, that hill does take ALOT of motor!

heres a pic of a hill I rolled my r down. got to 10 ft from the top and wheels spin and rolled down. It flipped a few times, once or twice with me on it. Got huge bruises on my sides and bent the steering stem. ALso the intake boot got knocked loose. Once fixed, rode the rest of the day.

thats a hill

That last one is a pretty decent hill, but the rest are just weak. If it still has plants growing on it, it isn't steep enough. Next time I get home I'll take some pics of the hills at the clay pits near my house. Most of the good ones are gone now since they started digging again, but there was one for awhile that was about 100 feet tall, at about a 75 degree angle. Scary hill, couldn't stand on it, had to climb it. Only saw one guy lose it, I think he was on a 400ex. He was at the top and just didn't let off, hit a small lip and flipped it. The quad hit the hill once on the way down. Bikes couldn't even make it up the hill, didn't have enough traction.

Is this over by Ridenour Lake or on the other side of the Interstate 64?
Posted by: Kilabanshee
mofo if i got to the next h/m ride ill do the climb for you. Yeah them silt climbs and be a biootch because there loose and dont allow that much traction but there alot of fun.
Posted by: danyeo
Have you guys ever waited in line for a Roller Coaster and there is always one idiot saying how the Coaster in Ohio, or Iowa or wherever is bigger and better, and how the fireworks were better last year. Sound familiar?

Yep, you should not have a problem with a banshee. When we were there, they had 2 banshee's going up it as well as Jeff's 'dale.
Posted by: Predator19
He rides a 416, not a banshee. I went up the climb next to the dragstrip at H/M last summer. Wasnt too bad but I wheelied some. Would be a lot easier with a bigger run for the hill.
Posted by: bradley300
predator19, do you have red headlights?
Posted by: 400exmom
i thought the ironman hills were soooo easy i got off my quad and pushed it to the top
Posted by: Kilabanshee
Yeah I ride a 416 with all the motor goodies. Kim did you go up the wrong side of the climb there?

Nope. They are polished.

oh, there was a guy on a pred w/ red headlights doing pretty good on that hill at hatfield, thought it might have been you
Posted by: redrunner
First trip down last year they had just re-dug that hill all the way to the top, logged out some trails and some small flat spots to stop. The local 2 wheel hill climb guy was practicing non stop on his 2 new bikes. He must have climbed that thing 50 or 60 times in a row. Most people that tried it made it without incident and we did not see any bad wrecks but there was a couple later that we heard about. Me, I watched.
Posted by: Predator19
I didnt think the hill was too hard a climb. My buddies didnt try it but I dont blame them. You scrrew up on that one and the quad is going all the way down for sure.
Posted by: 400exr
Heres one of the small hills where me and some friends ride. It doesn't look steep in the pics, but the hill is steep.

Thats a fair hill but , Where I live in Australia theres a group of four hills called the Harvester Hills .These puppies are huge I'll scan some pics and post them .
There about 50 to 60 deg and 8 or 9 hundred feet long .Anyone who would ride a Quad up these hills would have to have Rocks rolling around in there skull cavity . Or huge Ging Gang Goolies...

I made that, but I haven't tried it again.

hey, havent been on this forum for a long time, just passing by..
Those hills aint nothing, ive climbed many that seemed to be almost 90 degrees at one point, and goes up 100feet or so, sometimes even muddy. And me and friend keep taking turns doing it. I dont know how you could say that is insane, is it because your showing hill that you climb real fast? (because I go pretty slow on climbs), or is it because you dont know how or afraid to do it (so easy).
Posted by: PhilMoore
What can I say, except you didn't post a picture...

the hills I done it at were so steep you can bearly walk up it (maybe not at all)... I still dont see what makes it so hard for you guys, are you loosing trac. or just plain flipping backwards?
Posted by: 300exPat
it could be the fact that if your going too slow you'll start sliding down backwards, stall, or flip. what gear are you going in thats you say is slow?
Posted by: jst
Where is the hill located that Rico posted a pic of?
Posted by: jst
Does anyone have any pics of Waterford?
Posted by: redhondi400
I have done my share of cool hill climbs, but its mainly about messing up a $5000 dollar bike. If I had a faster beater than I would do some crazier hills.

It's easy to sit back on your computer and talk big. That first pic in thread is insane. I would bet not many people on this thread would try it.
Posted by: drip
The first pic is the Moonshine Hill. The next race is June 19th and I am almost certain I will be attending that race. I won't be the fastest but I definitely want to try to climb it. I have climbed some wicked hills with large rocks to swerve around and incline of about 70 degrees. I used to ride in Wellsville, OH every weekend until I moved to Florida (the land of flatness
)
