adjusting clutch, where to start?

well I happened to be near the dealer today so I stopped by, and they had my parts in 
got the clutch cable installed, and I have no Idea where to start when it comes to adjusting it, I know HOW to adjust it, I just dont know which to adjust first etc

Look at the pinch nuts on the old cable and line them up on the new one. These are located on the end down by the clutch itself.
When you tighten the cable at the lever, you want enough freeplay in the lever so that a you can place a nickel in between the lever and the perch if you pull on the lever before the clutch actually engages, hopefully that makes sense.

having them set the same as the old one doesnt engage it fully... and even when the pull is unbearable its not engaging fully, same as the old cable, what else could be the problem?
