Posted by: 400exvet
hey YLW400, I thought you would be at Budds this weekend. I am still thinking about going on Saturday. From what I can gather, they are racing quads Fri and Sat. What times do they usually run the quads? Are they last? Later

tomahawk is a pretty fun place to play around. the mx track is pretty quad friendly and the hs loop is rough enough to get you in shape but not bad enough where you break stuff. a good place to try that new frontend out

Sunday, Pappy
400EXvet, what is going on at Budds? A D-13 race maybe?

The Nationals i believe.
Posted by: 400exvet
YLW400,
Between district 7 schedule and Budds Creek schedule, it looks like they are racing MX and Supercross on Friday and Saturday and that includes quads.
The Pro Nationals are on Sunday. I have decided not to go
later

Sounds good to me
Posted by: 400exvette
I'll be there Friday night. Staying like 5 minutes away. I'm bringing the wife and kids and hopefully the R. I should have all the skids in and on it by then. I got the bars, clutch lever and twist on. I got the swingarm skid today. I would like to have nerfs before I race it too...I'll see if andy has any in stock!
Greg I can haul your quad, but I will not have any room in the truck for you. Maybe you can find something more comfortable to drive. I'll be leaving Friday afternoonish....let me know. Also, what did you do with your key switch and temp. light? I hooked mine back up, turned the key on and left them under the hood all strapped down.
Nick, I'll see you guys somewhere I'm sure! Are you going to bring any pit guys or gals? We all may need a splash of gas! Although, I did run the entire Rausch Creek race with no stops for gas! I didn't like the feeling of not being sure about gas. I know the R has a bigger tank, but I'm sure it uses a little more too. Later, Doug
Posted by: 250RXCrider
Doug,
I disconnected my switch assembly and zip tied the temp. light to the inside of the handle bar mounts. When you disconnect the the key switch you need to connect the black and red wires together. You can then connect your kill switch to the black wire with white stripe and the green wire. This will allow the fan, temp light and carb heater to still work. I also got rid of the head lights thanks to the Petersburg GNCC, brake light and all those damn brake light swtiches on the levers. I will be up at WISP with Nick and the gang so hunt us down and I will show you mine.
Later,
-James

I think my buddy Brian's girlfriend is coming but I usually don't have to pit. Last year we pitted behind the hotel on one of those grass sections. I think we will be around there this year. We also got a house so Sat night should be a good time. If I see ya during the pro race I'll have a beer for ya.
Posted by: YLW400
Hey Delaware, did numbnuts video himself??? He should of used Mikes' Cannondale instead!! lol
Posted by: 400exvet
Nick, what is the name of the Hotel where you pitted behind last year? What is its general direction from the main entrance? I've never been there and I would like to find y'all without having to drive around the whole complex. If you can, save me a spot next to you. I should get there around 8 or so.
James and/or Dan, do you think you can make it without stopping for gas?
Posted by: 250RXCrider
Doug,
I ran Rausch and Petersburg on one tank of gas. At Rausch I had a completely stock quad and at Petersburg I had my slip on, HRC air box lid, HRC needle and a 180 main jet. I know Dan put a splash in at Petersburg, but I am not sure about Rausch. I plan on making the entire race at WISP on one tank. If you get worried you could come in on the third lap and for a gallon.
We generally park right behind the WISP lodge. You would drive straight in then go up behind the lodge. The parking lot is extremely small compared to Rausch so it should not be hard to find us. We basically pit at the base of the two front ski slopes.

so who all is going to easton sunday? i think im just gonna go there and try to work with my new shocks that should be in friday and also get alittle more seat time and just hit the next race.. anyone wanna meet up. ill either have a black 2 door tahoe or a blue full size bronco(depends on if i come by myself or not)
Posted by: kwatts400
I should be able to make it, but I'll have to leave early to go to work. If I can make it, I'll be in a silver Pathfinder. Anyone else?
Posted by: greghall
Doug you should be able to go the whole race on a tank of gas,the most I've burned in a race so far has been 1 1/2 gallons that thing gets some killer milage, good luck to all you guys in the race & be safe!

Posted by: seatec
Well, i made it out to Easton at arond 11 or so just in time to see the last quad race of the day as far as i know. It was fun to watch. I coudnt belive how packed the parking lot was. there was room for any more trucks bigger than a Tonka. Most where bike riders though. i saw maybe 20 quads all together. Oh well. I am sure that the quad business will pick up more in the future. anybody else do anything cool this weekend?
Posted by: 250rmike
im gonna try to get there sunday to get my shocks set up alittle i was gonna race but i just had no where to ride and set them up.

Rode Rausch Creek on Sunday......OFF THE HOOK!! Track was awesome, weather awesome, great day of MXing. To top it off, John Natalie Jr. was there with the East Coast ATV crew...including Michele Reiser
. I wish I was half as fast and smooth as them!!!. How those quads stick to the track in the big sweepers at pro speed is amazing!

Hey guys! Got back from fishing, had a killer time! I had a whole week of fishing with no bad weather, no cell phone, wife, kids, work, just 6 straight days of fishing in the lower bay and ocean. I caught the hell out of some nice fish. I even got a 70 pound black drum while flounder fishing on a light rod with 12# line. Well I filled the freezer with meat and glad to be back to get some riding in. I have a 4 day weekend and am looking to go riding somewhere. If any of you are off on Friday that would be a good day to go for me.

Hey guys, Just got back from vacation on Sat. night and raced on Easton this past Sunday. While I was there I found out that they were having Rider Appreciation Day this Saturday, July 3. It's $15 to ride and free ice cream from Edy's. I'll be there. Hopefully it won't be too packed.
Posted by: 250rmike
yea that would be cool i might have to come check it out someday if thats cool with whoevers land it is. i need a good place to practice
Posted by: greghall
Glad to see you back Eric you lucky dog
I wish I could go away for a week of awsome fishing
I have been having some good luck with the bass this week hope it stays good after a $hitty spring. Now we can talk XC all these guys want to do is jump & MX stuff
I did'nt make the Wisp but Richie said it was a killer race & real tough rock sections.
Posted by: 250rmike
hey hey now i talk about doing both im gonna try doing both its just i like mx better right now while im young and can still live through jumping and not landing big jumps and not have to complain about my hip
Posted by: 400exvet
I don't wanna talk XC stuff...I hate XC..well at least I did on the third lap of the WISP. I was having a blast, riding good, sitting around the top 5 and WHAAAAM
. I don't know what I hit with the right rear but it almost threw me in the weeds. I gained control, shook the cobwebs out and let er eat some more! About a mile down the trail I felt something was not right and out of the corner of my goggles, I saw a little black thing roll into the woods
It was my rear tire, hub and all. I guess the prior impact broke the hub nut cotter pin which allowed the hub nut to back off. It honestly took me 20 minutes to find the tire...I was just seconds away from leaving it when I tripped over it. At the beginning of the race, the official said " Be careful in the woods because the abundance of knee high fern hides things very well!" ie rocks, stumps, dead bodies, tires etc! I should have listened
. So, the rest of my 90 minute lap 3 was trying to get back to the pits with 3 wheels and carrying the other
I eventually ground up the splines so bad that the tire actually stayed on for the last half mile or so. I ended up 30th out of 38
.
Thank you James, Dan and Brian for all the hospitality. James how did you do?
Way to go Pappy! you clutchless fool
You ate me up off the line but I soon caught yo ***
Why didn't you stop and help me find my tire
You could have had a smoke too.
Anyone going to OHIO for the John Penton GNCC?
Posted by: Pappy
lol...it took me a 1/4 mile to realize it was you
it was kinda tuff trying to learn how to use the clutch or lack there of and the TWIST throttle
i had smokes stashed but lost them somewhere
yeah the start is my best part
Posted by: Ericthered rdr
Were you on the R or the EX Doug? That sucks that happened to you but at least you made it out alive. You guys had awsome wearther up there for that race!.
Posted by: 400exvet
The whole weekend was pretty good overall. We stopped on the way home Sat night and stayed in Frederick, then went to Harpers Ferry Sunday.
I was on the EX. I really didn't want to break in the R on a race like that. I just feel more comfortable on the EX. I have all the necessary goodies for the R to be able to race XC now. I will be getting some good seat time in this weekend.
I would like to lower the rear a little but still use the stock shock. I have seen a couple different brackets just not sure which one to get. I see Andy somehow broke a part of his rear linkage at the WISP...bummer
Pappy, did your Elka's come with a different bracket or did the shocks just lower it enough?
Posted by: Pappy
i run the same elka link as andy, and you have to mod the hell outta any skid plate to make it fit.
if you remain with the stock shock id recommend calling GT Thunder and ask him about his linkage...from what i hear it works great
Posted by: cletusEX
That sucks Doug but glad you had a good time anyways. I had some things come up at the last minute and couldn't make it but hey there's always next year.
Posted by: Pappy
another race this weekend near morgantown if yall is up to it!
Posted by: 250RXCrider
Doug,
Glad to hear you made it back to the truck. I saw you on the side of the trail and you gave me the thumbs up so I kept going. I made a couple poor decisions at the beginning of the race in some of those bottle necks and it really hurt my race, I finished 22. I believe Dan finished 16th and Brian finished 6th. Have you had anytime to ride the new R, Oakland, MD is our next district race. By the way it was nice to meet you wife and kids, your boy looks like he is ready to tear up the trails!
Later,
-James

yup, but the jumps are pretty big now. and they put in a nice table top too......a little short length wise, but nice. they eliminated the gravity cavity and bypassed it with a bunch of doubles. its nice if all you like is doubles everwhere.

Eric the District 7 meeting is tonight ! Are you going & taking the Tomahawk results to Karen so there is no more excuses,I can't make it tonight but let me know if you are going to show up!Look on their web sight to find out were its at (turf vally),I'll see ya later!

Greg, would you find out what in the hell is going on with the MX points too???? This is downright ridicolous!!!!!!!!!
If the meeting wasn't 2.5 hours away from me, I can assure you I would be there.....

I don't think anybody at district 7 gives a fu%$ about any of their racers or races I will not contiue to race district 7 nexst year if things don't change I will go up north & run district 6 at least they care about thier Quad riders there!!!!
I've blasted them on thier forum & all I get are excuses ,they don't get paid or don't have time SO DON"T DO IT DON'T BE A REP. District 7 suks!!!!!

I second that Greg !!!!! I think our group is going to try to keep hitting the GNCC's. They are better organized and the promoters seem to give a sh$t.
Posted by: 400exvet
It would be nice if the quads got a little more recognition. But, unless you get someone in there that has the drive to make something happen, we will just have to live with what we get
With DRIVE, you make the time whether you get paid or not.
I finally got some seat time on the 450r. We have about a 2-3 mile loop in the woods which is very tight and rough with some mud and a couple of straighter sections I could wind out 2nd gear. WOW what a different beast than the 400EX. The most noticable differences are the weight and the power. Being lighter, I found myself throwing it around alot more where on the EX I tend to let it do what it wants. With the extra power, it wants to spin out or lift the front end up when coming out of a corner. Neither one of those is a good option when in tight woods. ( the stock front bumber is now trashed!) I also have to learn to feather the clutch a little more. I stalled a couple of times and lost lots of time trying to get it re-started. Any tricks on the starting? I tried the hot start, neutral and whatever else I could think of. One time I had to use the choke and it fired right up???? Other times it just fired right back up with one kick. I think I want to keep the stock sprockets for now and just learn the clutch a little better. I also have Propegs on it and man are they worth the money. Bigger is better
James, you guys going to OHIO? Later
Posted by: 250RXCrider
Hey Doug I am glad to hear that you are getting some seat time on the 450R, as far as starting goes just make sure you do not touch the throttle when starting it and I always use the hot start. I also turned up my idle just a tad it seemed a bit low and after the quad would fire I would give it gas and then it would die. They start very well, I think it is just getting used to it.
I talked with Nick and Dan the other night and think we may go to Ohio. If we did go we would hit the road after work on Friday and camp out Friday night. Mapquest said it was 330 miles, so I guess it would take around 6 - 6.5 hours.
Are you planning on going?
Posted by: greghall
Doug I don't know how you can even ride the thing with the stock gearing it suks bad till you get a 13T on the front,as for starting I never had a real proplem just remember NO GAS KEEP OFF THE THROTTLE,gear it down & I think it will act more like the 400 in the turns I have no proplem with it wheeling.

I've blasted them on thier forum & all I get are excuses ,they don't get paid or don't have time SO DON"T DO IT DON'T BE A REP. District 7 suks!!!!!
did you read the tirade on the distrct 7 forum? what a joke.

Hey Greg I am going to try to make it tonight. I will be working in DC and Virginia today on a speacial project for work and if I get done I am going to let the board know how we feel and belive me I owe these people nothing so they better not think I am going to sugar coat what I have to say. I have paid $150 into the ATVA and distric 7 this year between my boys and I. I want something in return besides a place to ride. Thats why I pay the facility the money I do to race. The district is really getting a bad name or should I say building on thier poor reputation. To hear that the MX side is even having probs just shows that the district is more about bikes. I am really considering District 6 so that my boys can race with me on the weekends. Distric 7 has nothing to offer the kids. I am about to buy Tommy a new quad so that he can race I am going to have to hit the PA series in order for him to run. The guys up in D-6 are very proactive in their approach to the HS series. If the D-7 reps want to step aside I will be happy to take over the position so that the series here can remain fun, competetive, and informed. I hope that the board will take what I have to say to heart, if not an e-mail to the president of the ATVA is in order.

did you see the tirade between tom and steve. dang!!!
Well, at least they kissed and made up at the end.

i just think its a big joke. quads have NEVER gotton any respect in that district..NEVER! and then they air thier dirty laundry on that site. It was piss poor and made them look worse then they already are. D7 is all about the money and bike's. always have been, always will be.
Posted by: seatec
Yeah well, the D6 is looking mighty good right now.
I just don't really understand what the big friggin deal is with these points. I might be missing something but if just 1 or 2 people would take care of the points and nothing else shouldnt it be up fast?
Posted by: Pappy
i can see where the bike points can get confusing, but i didnt think carry over points and all that bs applied to the quads

Yes D-6 is looking good and it just might be where I race next season. I was very impressed with some of the thing I have heard from people that run that series. I did hear a couple of grumblings of points not getting updated but that was after one race not half the season
Posted by: seatec
i hear ya.
Posted by: cletusEX
I think all you need to run a race anywhere is a AMA or ATVA card and any district card. If this is the case I will be getting a D-6 card next year even if I plan on racing some D-7 races for practice. I just don't want my money going to D-7 at all. My buddies and I are going to try and run the GNCC's. We won't hit them all but I think 10 or so are close enough. They are a lot more fun and there is actually some organization.
Posted by: Ericthered rdr
I hope that next year I can find the time to run some of the GNCC races because they are a cool atmosphere to race in.

How was the track up at Tomahawk at the last race? If I don't make it to the GNCC I will probably be up there on Sunday. I couldn't find anyone to go with last time and I have a little bit of a crashing problem so it's always nice to have someone to drive home.
Last time we went up there for practice a lot of the lips where rounded off and it made it hard to clear most of the jumps.
Posted by: YLW400
No problem dude, did you get it out yet??
Cletus, the track wasn't in too bad of shape, did get a few bad ruts, and a couple of the turns get real slick..it is real hardpacked under there. It was incredibly dusty, did you see the pictures Pappy put up from there a few weeks ago? All of the jumps now are basically singles, so no need to worry about getting lift to clear the other ones.. If you have a crashing problem, you may want a DD then
Hope to see you out there!! PM me if you are coming Cletus!

JC. not yet. am still at work and i think even i can't get my boss to overlook tinkering around with the truck during working hours.
will try tonight.
A big *** thunderstorm just came thorugh here and flooded the hell out of Ashland road in Hunt Valley for anyone working around here. better take warren back to Bel AIr.

I need time to go fishing! I have been real busy with work. The reports that I have been getting on local striper fishing sucks! I am taking the boat out this weekend to Fairlee Creek so the kids can play and I can relax. As soon as the report gets better I am gonna give it a try. White perch fishing is even off. With the price of fuel I am not running my boat down south to catch some small stripers. My boat burns 18 gallons of gas an hour @ $2.49 a gallon on the water. Just to run down to the gooses and back would be a $200 trip.
Damn twin 350's are hungry!
Posted by: seatec
Eric, thanx for the offer. better belive that when i run into trouble that i will call you. The cab lights are ona nd looking good. scared the sh$t out of me when i drilled that first hole but got better from there.

Eric, say hi to the honey's at Jellyfish Joel's for me. Its been a while since I've been down that way
Greg or James, have you guys had any trouble starting your 450's after being stood up on end to clean the bottom? I had to kick my friggin leg off b4 it would start. Should I give it gas or are they easily flooded? I am going to turn up the idle and use the hot start, like you said James. Hopefully that will help if I stall on the track.
Nick when are you guys leaving for Ohio? I am not going....as of now....but I have been known to change my mind quite suddenly. If I do, I will be alone and would like to hook up with you guys, atleast for the long drive out there. I have a tent that goes in the bed of the truck or I can stay in the trailer if the weather gets too bad. Oh NOOOO .......My mind is starting to change already

I know my brother has had a hard time starting his when it has been standing on end. Just don't do it before a race.
I think we are leaving the Frederick area around 5:30 tomorrow afternoon. If you decide to go give me a call at 301-602-2023. If we can't meet up on the road we'll let you know where we are parked and I'm sure we can leave together on Sat. It's always nice to have another vehicle with you on the road.

Funny thing I am most likely going to buy the same truck this week. How are the trannies in them now? I test drove one last week and was blown away at how powerful it was.

There were a few guys that camped up there last year. The parking lot is a huge field, so there are plenty of places to camp. I don't know how late people are there sat to let you in or if you can just drive in at any time.

The GNCC in Ohio was a sweet track. Lots of fresh cut technical trails and some nice wide open sections and a pretty easy MX track. Thank god there were no rocks.

I'll take a look at what kind of deal you can get! I do get a good rate because Nextel has an employee purchase program from Chrysler and from what I was told the only better deal is for Chrysler employee's. I want a silver 2500 quadcab Laramie but I can't find any in stock. I test drove the SLT with the HO Cummins and was very impressed. Greg I need to talk to you about my van, I'd like to drop it off to you this week if possible.

congrats Brian on your wood
....looks like Dan had some bad luck on the 3rd lap. Nick you were pretty consistant...just need a little more time and endurance......maybe less alcohol the night before?????I'm sure that wasn't a factor...was it? j.k.
thanks for the thought of trying to hook up for the ride out to ohio. I just couldn't get all the planets to align in time to go. James, I didn't get to check on you but it sounds like you did well also
is Oakland a points race for us? the schedule from the dis 7 web site shows it as points for MC but not quads. I hope not cuz I'll be camping that weekend and I don't want you guys to get too far ahead of me
Eric, do your eyes hurt from the bikinis you had to keep an eye on over the weekend?
CHEVY IS THE ONLY REAL TRUCK..GAS or DIESEL..period
