Engine noise?

2003 - 400ex, I am hearing a "click" or "ping" type noise that appears to be coming from the left side of the engine under acceleration in 1st or 2nd gear. The noise is more so when the engine is cold and it does not happen all the time. The quad is stock with approx 40 hours. All maint has been done including a valve adjustment. Any ideas?

my friend and i have 03's and they do the same thing. I know exactly what ur talking about. I have no idea what it is though.

could it be the chain hitting something? ive seen them wear thru the stock rubber stops and click on differnt things.

the cam chain or the drive chain pappy? my drive chain makes so much noise for some reason...as soon as I get rid of this loud as cobra & put a stock exhaust back on I will be able to pinpoint why.

check your timing chain tensioner???? i dont really know but thats a good idea to check

Whats kinda gas are u runnig? a low octane could alos cause a slight pinging noise

its your cam chain i dont think its much to worry about

it could be just like every 300ex i have seen or rode, make some ticking noise. If they weren't then i would probably get scared.
