this is a stupid question, but i need to make sure. when i check oil on my 250ex or any other bike for that matter, do i check it with the dipstick screwed all the way in or just with it sitting on top of the hole? It makes a big difference in the level, so i want to make sure..

In my manual for my 400EX, they say to let it idle for five minutes, longer in colder temps, unscrew dipstick, wipe off, and set it in the hole without screwing back in.

My Yamaha manual says the same thing.

darn.. that means i've been running it too low because i've always checked it with it screwed in... i'll fill it up before the next time i ride.. the thing is.. it came from the dealership with the oil that low so i figured that's the way to check it..

set mine on the hole.give it a half turn just enugh to set the threads and make it read even ...check it that way...
