get a feeler gauge for checking the valves, other then that, a good set of metric sockets and a spanner wrench (for the shocks). Get some alen wreches too.

A set of metric sockets should do just fine for routine maitenance. Almost everything on the bike is either an 8, 10, or a 12. The lug nuts are 17 I think and I can't remember what the hubs are metric. 15/16 front 1 inch rear. you will need a set of metric allen wrenches too (removing brake rotors and footpegs) If you don't own one already definately invest in an impact scredriver. All of the philips head screws are tighter than **** and will strip out easilly.

True, it seems you can do just about anything with an 8mm, 10mm, 12mm, and 14mm wrench, along with some metric allen wrenches. I even went out and bought a 6mm socket drive allen wrench for adjusting the chain.
