I just wnt to get a head count of who would be interested in a midwest exriders ride. Little Sahara is in western oklahoma and is a great place to ride if you've never been its great, just looking for a head count.

I go down to LS 5 or 6 times a year so I'm always up for a get together. I usually don't go in March though, a little too nippy for my panzy ***.
Are you set on it being in March?
I'm sure we could get a group ride together in the early part of next year. I bet the ZepDudes would be up for it.

Keep in mind that snake hunt is in April.I would not not plan anything to close to that.Snake Hunt is always the first weekend after Easter.

I would be interested also depending on date . As far as being nipple its 20 degrees here in wisconsin today so i dont know what you think is nipple but we are riding on the frozen lakes as we speak that would be like summer for me.

Does anyone know for sure when Spring Break in OK is going to be this year? I'm thinking it will be from Sat 13 to Sunday 21. Those weekends will be absolutely nuts. Hard to find everyone amoung the crowd of idiots (and some of us would blend end to easy:blah

I'll be camping in the south campgrounds. I always try to get a spot in the middle just north of LS Tours' shop. I gotta get a pass-through electric spot to get this big SOB in. With this, the truck, picnic table and quads, I usually fill up a spot pretty easy all by myself.

PHIL, the 24th is a wednesday. Areyou going down then or Monday the 22nd? The spot that you described is the spot that I'm talking about. There's another entire camping area that connects to the far North end of the dune area and it's called.... are your ready.... the North campground. The South campground is better, IMO, because of the store, the parts shop, and the drag strip is right in front. And now they have asphalted the entire South campgrounds so no more dust, woohoo
Link, the 27-28 weekend shouldn't be that crowded as most people will be down there the week before due to spring break.

im not sure what exactly im doing yet...probibly drive the 24th, ride 25-27th and drive home the 28th. if i want i can always go home a day early. it will probibly depend on how many people are there, and how the camping pans out. last year i left early cause it aint much fun riding by yourself. i knew some guys down there, but i didnt want to intrude on their weekend, and their campsite all the time.

Can anyone tell me if Grain valley, MO. lets quads on their track? I would go to Grindstone but that's too far. I also heard that Drexel/Merwin is building a track just for quads, is this true?

I don't know for sure about Grain Valley, it seems like I have heard that they do allow quads there, but I'm not certain.
I have not heard that about Merwin. I hope they are building one. I went to the track there once and it looked like a really good track. I say "looked" because from all the disgusted looks we recieved when we pulled in, we didn't even unload. I was later told that depending on who is there, they will flat out refuse to let a quad on the track.

Is every one going the last week in march or what.Its only 1000 mile drive for me a hop skip and a jump and i am there 20hours later.I cant wait for it is cold out side and i am sick of riding on the frozen lakes.I need some sand bad.Its 20 below zero and if the quad starts i am going riding after i put on 10 layers of close.Have you ever frost bitten your face you dont want to.March cant get here soon enough....................Chris

hey yellow, just an fyi - might want to be careful trying to see the boobies down there, the park narcs are really cracking down on those types of things. They said they are trying to get the park back to a family oriented park...which is good for ridding the nusciance people...but bad for us guys who lay low and check out boobies! haha!

It is pretty cold, highs of 40s lows of teens and 20s. Just a dusting of snow. That is about 80 miles south, but it is pretty much the same at Little Sahara.

Its like 7 degrees here in wisconsin -10 with wind chill.Got to use my paddles last week went sno cross racing and put my paddles on and pulled the holeshot and won both days of racing.The skat track haulers work pretty well in the snow can not wait to sling sand in all your faces in march.You better buy a couple cases of beer because when we drag race i dont want you to go thirsty.Only 50 some days left can not wait to get out of this crappy snow infested weather.........Chris

Last July I was at the dunes and it was 120f, no sh*t. I have also been when it was 10 degrees out, that wasn't actually too bad when you were out riding.
But the weather here at home blows. It is supposed to make it up to about 30 today, but dropping rapidly this afternoon. Wind chill is going to suck. What sucks worse is that I am going to a concert tonight, dont want to wear my coat when waiting in line, but dont want to freeze my sac off with only my Zep shirt on...

Friggen weather forecasters. They were calling for 4 to 15 inches of snow We didn't get a single flake of snow but it rain all afternoon and is starting to freeze. Should be fun tomorrow.

It would be fun to go riding at LS I havent been there since Oct. I have a good reason to go again. Just picked up my 450r tue. I have been trying to break it in but its been a we bit cold her in sw Mo. I just registered here last week or somthing like that and think it would be a blast to go riding with a bunch of people. I have a buddy that might want to go to.
Either weekend would be good but for one of them I would have to use vac days. No big deal but i have to let them know 2 weeks in advance. So let me know when everyone is going.
I need to order some sand tires for it though. Thinking about getting sand stars. Anybody try them yet?

Welcome to the site JF.
Alot of us are going on the weekend of 27-28. Some are going the weekend of March 20-21, which is spring break weekend for OK. The busy weekends are good for "scenery", but it's hard to meet up with people that you've never met before. I'm going to make a new thread on this the first of March to get a headcount for the 27-28.
I've havent' run the Sand Stars yet, but I've heard from several people that they are a very good tire. My first impression was that they would be similar to the Geckos (not good for high hp) but apparently they hook up very well.

I had a bike that was unreal, an 03' banshee red n black u will see it down there b/c i sold it do my bud...anyways its a 400 powervalve stage 4 trinity motor, its got it all and right around 100HP....its wicked, scarey, crazy, and stupid fast...thats why i sold it to my bud which is a hell of a drag racer....i have a sparks powered honda 450r more my style b/c i love to launch!!

100HP? Got any pics of this banshee? Maybe I have seen it down there. Do you by chance have a dyno sheet showing the HP and torque #s?

no this will be the 1st year down there with it, it is right around 95-100 hp, no dynos but im sure he will do it sometime when he gets them i will post um...around here he beats everyone there r 80+ hp shees so we r thinking around that # on HP not for sure though...

Little less than 35 days till i leave wisconsin for beautiful oklahoma.AMS is a new tire company owned by parts unlimited and they gave me free paddle tires to try out at the dunes and everyone is welcome to try.It is a real agressive tire that might not work on a stock 400 but it is worth a try they were free.I am counting the days till i get out of here because i work with my whole family and it sucks.I need a new job at a different bike shop. I will leave on wednesday and its 1000 miles for me should be there by thursday morning cant wait to ride.Chris

i will be heading down on friday the19th, hope to arive by 11:00p.m. at the latest. i will stay till friday the 26th unless some1 or some thing breaks. look for a silver dokota quadcab two, maybe three, yella 400exs and a green rancher with the front rack and bumper removed. my dads ex has proarmor nerfs and the mods on mine are in my sig. if the other ex is there it has an axle race cut fenders and an eseries. and o3le's shee.

I will be at Little Sahara on Mar 23 and 24.I am bringing my 11 year old son so a weekend is out of the question-to many drunken fools..I use to be one of them and still am occaisionally but not this trip.If anyone else is taking their kids let me know,my son loves to ride and just wears me out.

Man did I feel like an *** when we finally figured out what the major problem was...let's just put it this way, it helps to dial in the jetting WITHOUT the choke enguaged! The north campground and cowboy camp are open for the season. By the sounds of things on Little Sahara's message boards, it's going to be pretty busy the entire time from this coming weekend thru the next. For all you guys coming in on Friday (27), full hook-up spots may be all taken. Primitive spots should still be available though.

We are going to be in one of the north campgrounds, probably Cowboy. Yesterday some of our buddies went down and said that all the electrical spots are taken. But hell, who cares? The weather is going to be really nice.

i had a real good time. I met up with Badhabit, and went for a ride. he gave me my first real good ride thru the dunes and trails. real good guy, and his wife and sister-in-law were nothing but nice to my girlfriend. She was appreciative, and so am i. i still wish i would have got a chance to meet some other exriders.

PHIL, it was our pleasure having you and the lil woman hang with us. Hopefully next time you can stay a little longer and we can have some better weather to do some riding in. Kickin440 stopped by camp on Saturday afternoon and chatted for a little while. He was a nice guy, I just wish we coulda got some ride time in.
Saturday early afternoon got a little hairy. The skys darkened up on us and the rain started falling. The skys looked pretty threatening, when a park ranger came to our camp and told us we should head into town to the elementary school. Radar had three possible tornados forming southwest of Waynoka heading northeast. We got the kids in the truck and headed towards town. The radio announcement stated the same thing the ranger told us and said everyone in the Waynoka and Little Sahara State Park area should seek shelter immediately. By the time we pulled up the the gas station at the corner of town, the storm had moved straight east and the edge of the clouds were literally over our heads. We waited there for about 15 minutes to make sure it was gonna pass to the east, and then we headed back to the campgrounds.

We went out to the dunes and rode around for about an hour when another storm started forming over us. We headed back to camp and turned out of the gate just as the rain started again. No tornado forming this time but the sky really opened up on us.

We left right before the storm hit on sat. I wanted to ride it out, but the rest of my group was leaving, so I had to go too. The riding was awesome up until then, a little windy, but the razorbacks were awesome!!! This is probably the most wicked I have seen the dunes in a long time, there were drop offs everywhere! My 450R got to see lots of air time. Definitely going to need more hp to keep up with the yamahas on the drag strip!! Did anyone else see that 250R three wheeler with the drag pipe on it? I think I lost 20% more of my hearing sitting next to the drag strip when that thing would go by, nice to see a honda whooping some banshee arse out there!!! Glad to hear the storms didn't amount to anymore than they did.

Zepdude, just set a date and I'll see if I can make it. I'm opening up a new business so future trips down there this year look a little sketchy for me But you never know, I might be able to get away for a couple days.
kssandduner, wish we would've met up. I was kinda surprised at the number of 450R's that were down there. I expected to see a few, but I bet there was 20+ there. Is yours all stock? There was one with a sparks pipe (dunno what else) and one with just a duncan pipe that were running pretty good.

Yeah, mines all stock except for renthal bars. I was also really surprised at how many 450's were out there. I still got quite a few compliments on my bike though. We were camped in cowboy, I think there was only one other R in that area. I was the one wearing all green riding gear on friday!! We're all going back for easter weekend, that's the next planned trip we have.

We were camped in the Cowboy campground as well. We had a yellow 400EX, a Green 400EX, a red 300EX, and a stock 450R in our camp. I might be the other 450R you were talking about, kssandduner...

Damn Gabe, I was looking all over for that green machine. Since you were up in Cowboy, that would explain why I never saw it in the South camp.
I was beginning to think that everyone backed out because of the weather, but it sounds like I just missed everyone.
OK, next trip down there we will have to set a time, day(s) and a location in the dunes so everyone can meet up. If they start taking reservations for camping spots, we will have to get our chit together and make some reservations for camping spots as well.

Well my pics of the hale storm didn't come out so good it seems that running with a coat pulled up over your head and taking a picture at the same time is more difficult than you would think.

I was out there alot Saturday. My banshee is blue with nerfbars. The only race I lost was when I went over an ran the guys with the all out drag bikes. But I did stay within a bike length of them. It is cool to be able to run with those guys then while they are restricted to the dragstrip I head out to the trails and jumps with my ride.

Those are kickin440's pics. But yes, it's right along the east fence just north of the gate. Most all of the dunes had nice razors on the tops, so finding something to lauch off of wasn't a problem when we were down there. Sand was nice and powdery too, just like I like it.
Where did you camp at? I looked all over the south campgrounds Saturday for your truck but never found it. I hope you guys had fun and it was worth the long drive.
The hail didn't scare me. (OK it did, but I had to look unconcerned so my kids didn't freak out) We've been down there before with some pretty nasty storms and tornado warnings, but never when we had the little ones with us. I was waiting any minute for a hail stone to come crashing through one of the vent domes on the camper. Luckily, no damage to anything or anyone.
