my freind has a 96 YZ80 and we took the side of where the clucth is(drained transmission fluid first) and there was like real thick gray oil or something like gray thick paint. we have seen this twice now for the past 4 months. anyone know anything about this?

if its whitish to light grey it could be water in the oil. the yz is liquid cooled.

another possibilty is clutch fibers. might be time for a new clutch

Yep, it's coolant. If it's not burning it (you'd smell it in the exhaust and it would blow white) than a waterpump seal probably went bad and that's how it's getting into your side case. This same thing happened to my KX250 when the gasket went south.

Yep... that sounds about right to me. Check the coolant level, is it low?

the seal went on his water pump.

The seal is about 10 bucks, water pump gasket is about 7 bucks

takes about 30 mins to fix plus fresh oil and anti freeze

it is common for liquad bikes to do this. There is a SEEP hole underneath the pump, dirt gets in there and blows the seal, be careful when washing the bike.
