hey i just bought a 2001 400ex, like brand new , only a few tanks of gas through it, still looks showroom condtion, never seen trails yet. i went from a 2001 polaris trail blazer 250 so this is definelty a welcomed change. I was just wondering if you guys have any tips or secrets that can make my machine last longer and be reliable. on a tight budget now to pay it off, so mods are gonna have to wait thanks for the help

Keep the air filter clean, change the oil and filter often, and I recommend synthetic motorcyle oil. If you mod the engine ever, make sure you re-jet the carb. Have fun!

If you've used a few tanks it's time for some grease, even though it hasn't seen any woods. The factories are extremely cheap on the stuff. This should help you get familiar with the bike making future maintenance much easier too.

Buy a service manual,,and only use good products during maintance,,oil, filters, gas, grease, etc..

FYI, since you got it used, Honda calls out to use a minimum 92 gas octane for your 400ex.
