hey 250ex poeple, tell me what you like and dislike about your 250ex!
Posted by: sly400ex
I've ridden them before, fun bikes. Fun to play on. Wheelies, stoppies...etc.

HAHA your right!!!!!!
Posted by: rider250ex
mine breaks just about every time i take it out...i have snapped my swing arm twice, bent my axle, stripped a hub, then all the normal things like bent rims and all of that fun stuff...other wise its a pretty fun bike
Posted by: ex kid
the only thing i dont like is that its not chain drive, has a rear disc brake and no clutch. be nice if it was quicker but that was never hondas real intent. bottem line is its a good bike.

i ment to say i dont like that it doesnt have a rear disc brake.

I never want to get rid of mine! It is very fun, I can't explain why. For what I do, I like it better than the 400EX. I drove a 400EX through muddy trails and I like my 250EX a lot better. The shaft drive and stuff make it an awesome mud ATV. I have no problem driving in mud well past the oil dipstick deep with it and I know I can trust it to run everytime I hop on. I have never had a problem with it, at least one that related to the quality of it. I can handle 4-5 feet flat landings with ease so I think it is perfect for my needs.
Only thing I don't like about it is it is a little tippy with those balloony stock back tires and it needs a bit more more on the top. In 5th gear it is clearly struggling to pull the gear. I'd like to say Honda punch it out to 249cc and make it little wider. My friends mod Suzuki LT230 kicks my arse. It has beat mod 300EX's and Mojave's and everything. It is amazing. But what happened to it makes me glad I have a Honda. He had his idling the other day and the motor locked up solid, totally seized. It was rebuilt not to long ago. Only had about 15 hours on the motor.
I have pounded the chit out of the little thing and put it through mud hole's that my dad with his TRX300 with dirt devils was scared to go in, and he made it through.
I like my 250EX because it can go through the worst of trails like a utility quad but can still handle great with more power than any utility under twice the cc's as it.
If I ever get another quad, I will never sale this thing. I just love it. I have never been able to have so much fun on a quad. This thing really goes back to the fun of ATVing, not all the horsepower wars, and better handling wars. It's just a fun package that will last a LOOOOOONG time. My last Honda quad is going on 18 years without a rebuild and it still runs strong. Not a single problem, NOT ONE!! I expected the same from this quad.

i have an old 200sx which is like the old school 250ex. except its got a little less displacement and its chain drive. before i got the blaster i took that thing through everything. i mean everyone i rode with was amazed.. the thing went through mud so good and never left me stranded. the shocks suck on it but i still jumped to the quads full abilitys. great quad and it pulls away from the 250ex until the 250 reaches top speed then its about a 1mph difference. both fun machines to screw around on.

i wish the 250 had more bottem end power and more torque
Posted by: redroost85
Well, I will be honest. I love my 250ex....but Friday I am picking up an 02 400ex. I just need more power. I am tired of being like 'well, I can do the jumps (at the track) but my quad can't'. I loved that machine, Lord knows I have run mine to the max out at the track. But I need more power. I have saved up for a while and the time in now to move onto more power.
Bottom line: the 250 is a great machine, but don't try to make it something that it is not...I tried.

same here...well said

I love my (2002)250 EX, purchased after 13 years on a 200X. I agree with the other guys about needing rear disc brakes, however it would be as much an unneeded cost as the front wheel disc brakes, which I never use either except for the last 3 miles an hour as I pull back into camp. My personal improvement would be a gear indicator, its pretty exhilating to need power and look down and see your in neutral. But realize that I am a 67 year old rider. If you ride at El Mirage we park about one mile east of #3 out house on the south side of the lake. Look us up! A more serious defect is the ratio of affect between rear brakes and front brakes. Anyone know how to change this affect?

i love my 250 i can ride a Wheelies beter then on my 400 but the 250 cant take the jumps i have a 30ft kicker jump and it bottems out bad but i can out drag a 400 eiger and that is cool

250ex's arent really sport quads r they? there just recons with different plastics i thought.......
Posted by: 4wheelboy
good point but i have seen 250exs move (ryan250ex). but still even with the 300ex is still need so0 much more power for draging and flying down the roads. imean today i almost got beat by a wolverine

im pretty sure they have diff frames then a recon. and they are alot light. mine is def a pretty sportty quad...slow and heavy. but alot sportier than a recon
Posted by: Fast250EX
The 250EX has essentially the same frame as the Recon with a few minor changes and a silver paint job. It is 1 inch wider than the Recon and weighs 46 pounds less I believe. The 250EX engine also had a bit of work done so it is not straight out of a Recon, although I have heard new Recons have the same motor as the 250EX now. Gearing is changed greatly. While I wouldn't call it slow, but the motor clearly struggles to pull 5th gear. I have beat a piped Mojave in a 200 foot drag before.
Also, I wouldn't call it heavy. It actually weighs less than the YFZ450 by 1 pound. The 250EX is 349 pounds, the YFZ is 350.
The weight lost from the Recon is mainly in the aluminum wheels, racks, plastic, etc.
I am more of a trail guy now, after my trip to Land Between Lakes. That changed my mind big time. In my opinion, it is one of the best trail and mud sport quads out there. Mud almost up to my spark plug didn't faze it at all. The funny thing was I felt nice and safe, like I was in total control. It gives you a nice secure feel on the trail. Even when I did get stuck once, it's light weight was just a matter of pushing or pulling it and feeding it a bit of throttle.
I think it is perfect for me. If I want it to go faster later on, there is a cheap 249 kit that makes a large difference in performance for only a 20cc increase. Or I could just leave it alone and drive it. And for an entry level sport quad, it is a pretty good jumper. I landed 5 1/2 feet flat the other day and it didn't bottom out. If it did, it must have just barely because I landed with that cushy "wuhh" sound.
I love my 250EX and I have reason to. It's a good all around package.

hell yeah, biatch!!!!!!!!!!
Posted by: 400ex1999
the only thing that doesent make it a good sport quad is the power to weight ratio n the lack of chain and clutch but without those it isnt really a sport quad anyways right?
Posted by: Matt102
Well, I took second place at my last mx race, and yes, I beat a hole bunch of chain driven, manual clutched quads(blasters and one mojave) with my shaft driven, automatic clutched 250ex. I'll let you determine wheather its sporty or not.
Posted by: 4wheelboy
its more rider then bike anyway

Posted by: Fast250EX
Plus, while I'm riding and getting better, most guys would be lubing their chain.
Seriously, If I wanted something chain driven and with a clutch, I could have got a 300EX. Did I? No. Why? I am more of a trail rider but I need something more aggressive than a utility with many utility pluses. I am gonna shut up now though. It seems everytime I post on a 250EX thread I only plan on saying a sentence or two and end up writing a damn book.
