Well I'm back home Like Tommy Boy said "That was AWESOME!" If you love duning beg, borrow, steal, sell you wife and children into slavery if you have to! Just go there! Those are the best dunes I have ever ridden! It is the Wimea bay or Mavricks of duning huge steep dunes and gigantic bowls! Riding a razorback and looking 300+ feet down into a sage brush filled valley is amazing and a huge adrenalin rush. Running bowls pinned feeling your suspension bottoming out because of the centrifical force is sureal! Choke Cherry was big and steep...Devils Dune was flat out intimidating from the top and the bottom! You just look at it all and can't quite believe it is all so massive and so few people are there. I really can't wait until the next oppertunity to make the trip comes up to make it back there

Sounds amazing!!! What bikes did you take with you ? Did you get any pics or vids ?

I took the dale and the 900 a friend of mine brought along his lt 250 with an lt 500 motor in it that I built for him. As soon as I take the time to figure out how to post some pics I will.

I can't wait to get back there

It ran great! It was really well suited for those big hills! 3rd gear bumping the rev limiter @ 80mph uphill is such a rush

Sorry for the delay I've been out of town...The weather there was hot mid-day with a little breeze. We slept with the ac on and rode early am and evining. Hung out in the middle of the day in the bus watching dvd's and talk story with friends. The rain and wind showed up sunday night just as we were leaving. We had it until Pochotelo sp. The wind was with us through most of nevada. The end of june sounds good! The only conflict is my daughters have summer break from college around then and need help moving home. When you have a date let me know.

Flying over most of those dunes wouldn't be fun! I don't think I have near enough suspension to fly that far! It was more of a back off and roll over. You could seriously set some altitude records on some of those peaks!

It made it up everything we tried! The thing has so much torque and is geared low enough that going up isn't a problem. The rider is definatly the the one holding the machine back Discretion being the better part of valor and all that!

Posted by: QuadJunkies

Nah, me saying you would fly over them wasnt serious. ..Beisdes, wenve had enough deths over hre this year,,, I see Wyoduner posted ab out a kid that died recently up ther in the Lava Rock.....From the sounds of it,he wasnt wearing a helmet.......Ill post plenty in advance about next summer,as son as I find out when the obss will let me take my vacation time..Ill post a date that hopefully works for most everyone.... Glad you had a good time.........

I heard about that...The people that we were camped next to told me about it. From what they said a group showed up parked, a kid in his early20's unloaded his quad fired it up and headed straight out of the rv park. No helmet, boots, nothing...went over a sawtooth dune that the backside was lava rock with about a ten foot drop into the rock. The blm had the area fenced off when I was there. The guys next to me said his family stayed and partied for the rest of the weekend and were showing people the quad he was killed on.

heres what Wyo posted.....That is soooo sad....People need to wake up and use some good ole fashioned common sense... I hear they are keping it marked for the time being so that others dont ride around that area Im guessing..This makes around 4 deaths this year I think..Maybe more.......

Posted by: Natertot426ex

why the heck would the poor guys family stay there all weekend and party. You'd think they would have left.

Posted by: wilkin250r

Maybe nobody in his family like him. They were all "Yahoo, more beer for the rest of us!"

That is what I was told by people I have no reason to doubt when I arrived at Sand hills resort. They were giving us a general layout of the dunes and what to watch out for. It really is sad and pretty sick

Posted by: WyoDuner

According to Wyorider from my forums he said the guy wasn't wearing a helmet and hit the base of his skull on the rocks and that is what killed him.

Since people will obviously not learn, I think the BLM needs to put up more fencing to protect these people from themselves. Those rocks are dangerous. There have been at least a few deaths involving them not to mention all the injuries we never hear about.

Where is dead horse? Is it the bowl with the barrel in the bottom? Devils dune was spectacular! I want to make it back twice next year.

I would post a pic of it from Wyoduners site, but right click is not permitted. If you go to his web site and go to pg 6 in the St. A's pics section, he has a pic of it and many other really good pics.

From what it looks like that is the bowl that the lt250 is riding in. We went out one evening and saw this huge bowl and rode for a while. The big bowl by devils dune was also really nice...unfortunatly I didn't stop and take many pictures It was kind of like being a little kid on his first trip to Disneyland! We were worried that if we stopped too long we might miss somthing

haha thats how I was my first day out. I didnt take the camrea and thats theday we went out to choke and that would have been the best day for pics for us..... I didnt want to stand around talking pics..I wanted to RIDE!

Posted by: oldsandman

Next time I'll do better on the picture thing. It is hard to show the size of everything...my pictures don't do it justice. I think I'll have to learn landscape photography
