Been tightening a Bolt and you thought, "hey, Just one more turn for the hell of it! Just to make sure, you know" and, you twist the head right off the rest of the bolt?!!! And its clean smooth with the rest of the surface? I remember doing this when i got my pipe, i went with only one bolt until i learned when the whole tail pipe fell off when i was blazin thru a field and it sounded like my pipe was RIGHT IN MY EAR, under my HELMET. I coulda swore sumone was riding on the side of me and i didnt know it, lol, until i saw my pipe layin on the ground

People over tighten stuff all the time! They just don't get how fasteners work!

I used to do that, then my mech bud told me, when it gets tight.. like when it starts to get where you cant turn it easily, go a half turn or so more and thats IT!

Been there, done that.
The pipe fell off on my 125 when riding once, was pretty damn loud.

yea i've been there done that too, but i just got good at not stripping bolts with a regular wrench and then we got air powered tools:confused2 the first time i used it i broke the bolt off
so no more using them for me, i'll stick to my regular wrench's

two races ago i was following a z 400 with a brand new hmf pipe and he hit this one bump and that was it. i ran it over and couldn't hear anything. i eventully pulled up next to him when he let me by and i yelled to him what happend. he was so confused i guess he thought the pros were coming around and it got real loud.

Good suggestion! Usuaully works, but I have been just started putting a bolt in and it broke off, no where near the torque require!

there are certain bolts on the 400ex known to break so i try to be extra, extra careful because i have broken my fair share of bolts.

I remember working on a semi truck putting fenders on the back 8 tires and tightering a grade 8 bolt with a big *** tourqe wrench, the bolt snapped and almost took my head off, luckily the guy at work parked his truck right behgind it so ya know just took out his windshield.

i did that to my gear oil cap and drain bolt a few weeks back. i was trying to get them off, and they both broke in half
