Ok, i just changed my oil the other day. So i drained from the oil tank in the front (on my 400ex), then i drained from the crank case. So, then i put my 1.95 qrts or so of oil in the Oil tank at the front. I then checked the oil, and it said it was full and ready to run. So, i took it for a spin a few laps around the yard. So, i went in to park it and decided to check the oil agian from the tank at the front. When i did that the marker said there is no oil in it!! Whats up with this? What am i doing wrong?

Check it after it cools off for about 5-10 min.
Also double check drain plugs for leaks and tightness.

don't take this the wrong way or anything, but....is this your first oil change?? fresh oil is sometimes very hard to see on the dip stick.

If no one else has an idea, i'd drain it out again into a clean container and see how much is there. Then refill, i'd be kinda scared to start it up with it not reading anything.
Just incase you don't know make sure the engine is fully warmed up (about 5-10 min) then let it rest for about 5 min. then check.
Good luck

Holy- I know what you mean. But, when i put the dipstick all the way in, it catchs some oil.

my 400 takes exactly 2 quarts when the case is drained, and the filter is changed.
mine will only hold about 1.5 quarts in the cooler. I have to start it briefly to get the oil into the case. then I can add the last 1/2 quart to the cooler.

Ya, i just did what you did 3punk. I just run it around for awhile then add some more. Then ran it some more, and it says its full and up there. Its all fine now, thanks for the help people......
