am i supposed to inspect my vales ever 20 hours on my 400 ex. Some yamaha mechanic told me.

Doesn't hurt, but if you everhear them ticking you need to adjust them.

is the ticking sound very noticable ?

You can definately notice it at idle, after it revs and you have a aftermarket exhaust its not unles they are really bad. It only takes a few minutes to do, check them, whats the worst that could happen.

how do u get at them whats the easiest approach and how do u adjust them.

on the 300ex the manual says the first 20 hours,

you can have someone do it or you can do it yourself, look in the tech section and there is a step by step explanation for valve adjustment
