People have probably asked this question before, but how much trouble is it to get a frame prepped for PCing. And could an amateur mechanic handle it?

It would probably be easiest to take it to a sand blasting shop and have them blast it for you. I have also heard that aircraft stripper works but have not tried it yet

go the the local automotive store, buy two cans of aircraft grade paint stripper, spray it down, the paint will bubble off the frame, you have to sand it down a little big cause the paint comes off, but its still attacked. Get a wire bnrush for the tight areas it really isnt difficult but takes about 2 hours for frame and sub frame.

most "professional " powdercoat shops ...
burn off and /or sandblast it right there at shop ...

I'm in no way saying that I am a professional. But if the parts can stand the heat I will burn the paint or old PC off before sand blasting to save on labor time. But most of the time I sand blast the parts before Powder coating them.
