So lets here what you guys think a good tire P.S.I. is for XC racing.

depends on the tire, i got 6 ply rear razors and i run with no pressure sometimes but 2psi mostly. when i had the 4 plys a ran about 4. i'll be going back with the 4 plys cause the 6plys are alittle to stiff. i run 6 psi in the front

for xc i like runnin 5psi all around
the least you should run is 4, if you dont you're askin to pop a bead if you hit a tree or somethin

and even if the tire stays on without pressure it'll cause an uneven wear of the tire and a shorter lifespan

if you have a 4 or 6 ply tire in my opinion anything over 5 is just to much...depending on conditions i might run 2-3 in the back if its SUPER muddy and if its really dry maybe 5....up front its 4 no matter what the conditions for me

Razrs or Holeshots 6 ply on the rear no more than 4 psi.10 psi up front no matter what tire also 6 ply.

It may sound high, and maybe I am but no front flats in over 3 years of XC racing(I have had ONE front flat in the past five years of XC racing)

(3.5-4) in back and 5 up front is my preferrence for my R with 6ply razrs. Anything over that and they just break loose too much.

Tire PSI is a balance - balancing handling, ride quality, and puncture resistance.
Too low and you'll have tire roll in the corners and more sidewall punctures due to tire pinch when you hit rocks, roots, and other trail obstacles.
Too high and you may run into traction problems and will wear down quickly due to getting the crap beat out of you.
Tire pressure will vary from course to course & the level the rider rides at.
A non-aggressive rider can run a lot less pressure and get away with it without trouble while enjoying a smoother ride as well.
I sometimes run as low as 3 to 3.5 psi when I'm just trailriding with my buddies - makes the ride far more enjoyable. I woudn't race on the pressure though.
On less rocky terrain you can also typically get away with less tire pressure.
In our rocky terrain, I tend to run between 4.0 and 5.5 lbs front and rear (depending on the course). Usually, I can get away with a little less pressure in the front than rear, which is good, because the fronts make the biggest difference in ride quality & trail transmitted to the handlebars.
Also note that the numbers I quoted are for the 6 ply RAZRs I run and may be different depending on the tire you use.
