Posted by: mean400
lol, located in PA
i posted another tread in this section about shenandoah, pa.....well mainly everyone that came here said that they liked our hills the most and they are the biggest one they have seen so far....so far ppl from ny, nj, and virginia have come to ride here.....alot of ppl that do the hills for time trials come here to practice!......
so far our biggest hill i seen 1 person make it up!......not to happy to say this but it was a 370 long rod banshee...pretty much had everything done to it!.....my 400ex makes it about 10 feet up from the halfway point

Posted by: mean400
that hill is pretty small ne way!.......
our mid way hill's are like 2 of them hills put together
Posted by: BlasterBTW
Chuck we need to get some Digi pix or vids. Maybe (and I say maybe) I can come up this Sunday and we can take some vids. Some of those hills I am scared to go down! lol Trust me guys this place is pretty damn cool! The thing that makes the climbs soo hard is that its coal, and its pretty loose.
Posted by: mean400
hey, i got some pic's done im gonna post them on the open fourm.....
lmao i got the one of u

Posted by: mean400
looks small compared to our hill's........ours are like 2 of them put together.....and its alot harder bc is coal dirt......like i said....out of all the ppl that come to my area, i seen 1 person make our biggest hill (banshee)........
also i would like to see some of the atv's that climb that hill climb ours..........
i will make a $200 cash bet that they wont make it!our medium size hill's are the ones that most 400ex's and raptor barley make.

let me borrow your quad and I'll make that bet with ya.
Posted by: mean400
lol,
my 400 cant even make it......and i got a crap load of motor work done
Posted by: Kilabanshee
Yeah do you live near eckerly or freeland me and 400ex_kaschak know were some really hard climbs are. I rolled trying to do the one that he carved out o noooooo lol.
Posted by: Kilabanshee
ha ha give me a 420 powervalve banshee and ill give the climb a wirl. I bet your climb isnot near as big as the one in the picture i really want to see this.
Posted by: mean400
forgot to mention, u only got about a 2 bike lenght runner!.......ill still bet ne one of you's 200 cash that u cant make it....only an atv.....no Dirt bikes.....
my bro has an quadzilla 500 and he makes it like 30 feet from the top........
like i said .....i seen only an 370 long rod banshee make it.....
i seen 416ex's and 440 and not 1 came close!
but oh well ya dont belive me and u live close come give em a try.....we also got alot of trails around.......
Posted by: 250x#93
Hills that are just long are no fun
Cuz its all machine most of the time and tires to make it to the top, I like watchin people climb straight up climbs that are semi long and are as wide as a quad, and when there are obstacles like rocks and ruts
Posted by: mean400
yes im by freeland.......im like 17 miles from hazelton......
Posted by: mean400
some of our hill's go down into a strippin pit and right back up the other side............
our hills are about 4 quads wide.......(hard hills)
the smaller one u can fit a truck down them
Posted by: Kilabanshee
Come down and ride with ous sometime if you live so close..... Yeah i would love to see you guys try some of the bigger ones up in the eckerly miners village. Baybe sometime ill go riding up in your area.
Posted by: mean400
i rode out in tower city once......there hill's suck......there way 2 small!

You still got your 200 bucks? I will gauran-damn-tee you I could make it.
Posted by: mean400
my bet is still one to anyone who tries them.
where u from ne way?
whats kinda quad?
Posted by: Kilabanshee
Hey do you let 420 trinity long road banshees go in it? Man you better cancel that bet cause my buddie has a 420 long rod shee and hes never crash on a climb. When i was in freeland he climbed up this slate climb which is about 80 degress almost strait up and down . If you were smart ide cancel that bet.
Posted by: Chef
PSI 425R, but I'm on the cool coast.
Posted by: Kilabanshee
man u should have just canceled this forum cause i bet my buddie and chef would fly up it with no problems.
Posted by: mean400
im stillmakin the bet.....i was out today and we made a new one.....my buddies 370 long rod banshee couldnt make it....a 440ex cant and my friend on his 330r tried it and made it around 30 feet from the top........so far only thing is making it down the hill.....ill place a bet on this hill 2.......its strait up and down has about a 10 foot runner........
Posted by: mean400
ill even give u a hint......get relators if ur gonna come tri this......thats what the 330r had on.....the rest of us .....otsus....some other kind of paddle tire?.....and razors........dont forget this is loose coal dirt.....and since its wet its like trying to climb a huge hill w/ slush and ice........
Posted by: BlasterBTW
Hey Chuck,
Sorry I won't be able to make it this Sunday. But you gatta show me this new climb sometime! I can garentee I will make it with my blaster!!! lol j/k I can't wait to climb when its dry out. Man last time I was there I was ganna try the harder side at the AC/DC but then I saw that there are 2 huge bumps right at the bottom so I can't get a good run. Oh well!
Bry

Sounds like a cool hill, I thought about gettin realtors but I dunno, they might not be to good for bearings
Posted by: mean400
all depends on what kinda quad u have tho....i seen alot of ppl put relators on an blaster and an mojave and they sucked bc they were too heavy for the quad and cut power.......i had them on my old 400 w/ work done to it and all they did was spin....so i needed a tire w/ more tread.....alot of banshee's run them around here.....they wear them down in like 3 weeks tho.....
Posted by: 250x#93
Ya think my x could handle em???
Posted by: onelow
coal hill has some good climbs im there every weekend. just one thing you need is high rpms which a 400 doesnt really have. shee's make it with no problem.
Posted by: mean400
on my old 400ex there wasnt a hill that could stop me.......it never lost power and just kept going......i had relators on it
11:1 high comp weisco piston
bored 20 over
big gun exhaust
timing advanced key
rev box
ported and polished head
twin air filter
jetted carb
12 tooth front sprocket.
the thing was awsome...it climbed way better then the 440 and was pretty much with the 416....
and about the 250x?........my and me switched for a weekend and he took my relators and he wiped his bearings right out
his 250x had.....cobra exhaust, cam, bored over.....i dunno what to but i know he got it bored w/ a bigger piston.
coal hills are really hard......expecially when there wet........i seen alot of banshee's get stuck on hills that 400's and raptors make....it all depends on the tires and the driver.....
u could put a person that does MX his whole life on a wicked banshee and another person that does hills all the time on a mildly worked 400 and the person on a 400 would prob will make them and the banshee wont.......all depends.....
Posted by: jaspurx
so where exactly are theese hills?
Posted by: Kilabanshee
I think he said about 20 miles north of freeland were alot of me and my buddies ride and there are alota sick climbs there that ive seen people come tubmling all the way down. This banshee tried to go up this all rock climb which was about 40 foot of slate then rocks at the top and the quad didnot make it up and he was taken out in a heliocopter. Those climbs up in those areas r true climbs ide be carefull if he says its huge.
Posted by: GETSOME
Pics of the hill your talking about would definatly help
Posted by: onelow
Trevorton Pa is where these climbs are. do a search on coal hill to find lots of pics of the climbs.
Posted by: dunkfan_19
Trevorton is a sweet place to ride...........them hills are big plus there basically is no run at them..........o yea mean400 i would put 300 bucks down that my quad would climb that hill you are about so much
Posted by: mean400
i guess u wanna lose your money quick!
ill bet 300 on it...
i was out yesterday and here's the quads that tried it and didint make it.......
quadzilla- halfway
370 long rod banshee- like 10 ft higher then the zilla
my 400ex- about 20 feet from getting halfway
a 300ex-lol- about 1/2 of the halfway point
and a highly worked raptor w/ a strocker kit- same as banshee
these hills arent in trevorton......they are n shenandoah.....about 10-15 mile fron hazelton............and 5 miles from frackville
i will have a video soon on my area.....prob be on sunday.....bc im just getting done putting my ex back together/
ill try the hill on sunday/ 465ex!
cant wait
Posted by: BlasterBTW
Hey Chuck,
I think you need to revise your bet a little. The quad has to make it up the hill..... with the operator still on it! lol
Man I can't wait to come up again...see ya
Bry
Posted by: 400exrules
you could just hook a very very long winch to a tree at the top
Posted by: timewass
Hey Rico, where is that hill you pictured located?
Posted by: luvmyex
Anyone who know how to meet up with this Chuck *******.Stomp hiss *** for me.He ripped me off along with 2-3 others on here.Got me for $77 for his plastic. So will one of you guys take it out of his *** for me please!I would stomp him but im in NC to far for $77.But he does need his *** kicked!

mean400 i think u just might loose that bet.........because i think me and my friends quad that we build is an LT250r with a kz650 street bike motor in it with Nitrous hooked up to it will put that hill to shame........would still want to bet on it............Oh yea we just put brand new realtors on it.........
Posted by: FFW
I think I know which hills he's talking about. He's not kidding. I've been to Frackville a few times and the hills are silly, black, sooty, loose shale. We've been through Mt. Carmel, etc etc etc. The riding is nice but filthy.
Some of the climbs are insane!
A certain 502 EX had some fun more than once on a spot called the 500 hill.
Some of the hills are 2-300 feet high, off camber and they go nearly vertical towards the top.
One of the last times there we saw an interesting character in an S-10 4WD climb a hill that had a few shaking their heads. He even went back and did it again!
Here's a couple of pics I have from some of the hills. If I can find others I will post them.

Posted by: FFW
last one...tough hill since the run-in area at the bottom is very short!
FYI I ran Realtors the last time I visited Frackville and they made a huge difference.
Posted by: onelow
ffw isnt that the hill that the starting spot is half a circle and is surrounded by trees. thats the mine they just ripped down that big *** building. i tried it on my stock 400. its a hard hill b/c u can turn around b/c there are some big *** rocks at the bottom. i got about 25 feet from the top and got stuck, my friend had the throw down the winch and pull me up. right now my quad is in the shop getting motor work done. so after i break it in im gonna give that hill a shot again.
Posted by: FFW
Onelow,
Not sure which hill it is. Most of them look the same
Steep and loose. The few times I have been there we've taken different trails. The first run was a day and a half and we covered about 130 miles. There was a really interesting area with a pond of sorts and a bunch of shale whoop-tee-doos that ended near a steep but short drop off to a gravel road. I just can't recall all of them.
The one the S-10 went up was a pile all by itself. Some sand rails also came up to play afterwards. What a rush to see them climb a hill, get stuck and simply turn around in the middle of it!
I want to head back there eventually but I will wait until the weather cools.

Posted by: RawEX
i know what i did was wrong and all but im fixing it.
but some of you's ppl should come up for a ride if you like long trails and expecially hills!
i got pic's but it says that they are too large to put onto here?.
how do i go about making them smaller?
Posted by: EXtreme-
Here's a well put together story we have hosted on the Frackville area you guys are talking about. Some of the hills are sick! Pictures don't tell the real story though. Make sure to click on the mpegs

just let me swap out my swingarm and tires on my raptor and not only will i climb it, i will climb it faster than any of you local boys
, but seriously it doesnt look to intimidating to me
Posted by: FFW
hah sparks
Don't judge this book by it's cover
There are plenty of climbable and enjoyable hills there. There are also some that aren't so climbable but nonetheless enjoyable.
Go up and try it out sometime. You will enjoy it.

Posted by: sparks400ex101
wheres this place at, im not worried i want the 2 hundred bucks if the place is close enough, ill show you boys how to climb
Posted by: FFW
Easy as pie to find sparks. Go north to Richmond VA, continue north till ya hit DC, Continue North again up I-270 until ya hit the PA border, look for I-81 in Harrisburg PA and take that north to the Frackville exit.
There are hills there that you won't be able to climb
But...I'd certainly like to see you attack them. It's always a good time to see some brave soul work the hills there.

Posted by: sparks400ex101
ok thanks for the info, is it worth the trip for me to ride there? or is it just hills 2 hundredbucks dont seem worth the trip bump it up to 5 and we got a deal
Posted by: FFW
Sparks,
There is, and I believe I am wildly UNDER-exaggerating, hundreds of miles of trails, thousands of shale pile hills, some hundreds of feet high. Some of the hills through the woods are shale piles that have been over grown with trees. The trails snake through the woods, through open fast sweeper turns and some empty out into 100 acre wide flat shale pits.
It's a 3.5 hour trip for me and I live about 50 WSW of Washington, DC.
I'd see if you can get $500 for climbing first, just to make it worth the trip of course
Posted by: sparks400ex101
if i can get 500 for climbing it, your on
Posted by: 440ex racer
if u come to WV p-burg we have some hill climbs 4 ya
Posted by: 440ex racer
after looking at the pic of hills we call those trails in WV
Posted by: 440ex racer
here in WV we have a good one 4 ya'll it straight up and down rock wall and it has been climbed
Posted by: sparks400ex101
i guess its time for me to put on my +12 swingarm

Yeah, I have noticed that too. What a surprise
Here's a few more pics from Frackville PA, last year.
Posted by: FFW
Thos ATV's at the bottom are actually on a small hill but it's deceptive.
Posted by: FFW
At least one of the next 3 is none other than Chad502EX
Posted by: FFW
another one of Chad, I think...
Posted by: FFW
last one of Chad
Posted by: FFW
It wouldn't be complete without a couple of shots of the dude in the S10
Posted by: FFW
last one of the S10, clearing the hill. He did it 2 times without real trouble.
Posted by: sparks400ex101
looks killer
, cant wait till i head on up there, that first picture wasnt the same as the rest look at the front bumper very closly in the first pic, then look at it in the others
Posted by: FFW
Yeah I saw it and realized how tired I was when I uploaded them last night
Brain fart again!
If I find any others I'll post them too.

Posted by: jaspurx
got any more pics from there? i may be interrested in going over that way if i can find out how to get there. those look like my kind of hills!!!!
Posted by: Martin Blair
how can you not make it up a hill, just put it in first and crawl, might take a while but how can you not make it?
Posted by: RawEX
Because in coal dirt you dig in. you can have the best kinda tires in the world and you still wont make it in 1st gear.
my 400ex is pretty much done up for climbing and on most hills all i do is spin.
hills in my area are awsome.
ill post some pic's on friday
Posted by: jaspurx
coal dirt is a lot like sand , easily scoops out from under the tires. we have a few good ones around here. also coal piles are sweet to jump , like sand , it is a little softer landing than dirt. and hn400exracer , that low gear thing does not work on REAL hills!
Posted by: BlasterBTW
Here are some hillclimb pix from Tower City. They aren't too bad. The ones in Shenandoah are twice as long and steeper.

those pics look like indianhead. some hills in tc are hard ya just gotta find them. altho im not one for climbing something i know i cant make then watching your quad get demolished. some coal ya can go in 1st up...if its hardpacked. most of it isnt as soft as sand. believe me if your experienced at climbing a shee will eat the 400ex alive...whoever said the 400 will do better pass the pipe to the left please...
Posted by: RawEX
actually i would very much like to see a banshee climb some of the hills in shenandoah. we have one called the 400 hill. i have seen 1 banshee make it. and it was a banshee bored 20 over, ported polished, cool heads, the the 2 into one carb set up.
trust me not all hills are the same. around your area you might have banshees that kick ***** on hills but in our area the 400ex's and the raptors are # 1. and we have alot of banshee's but what good can the do with a 5 foot runner?
also if any of you's ever decide to come over. ill meet up with you and show you a hill we call the lincon. it the biggest one in our area. only heard of 3 quads to make it. a highly modded honda 250r, a 465ex and a worked quadzilla.
Posted by: RawEX
im posting some snap shots of our area. nothing great. just some photos.
Posted by: RawEX
here is a pic taken from halfway up a small hill
Posted by: RawEX
another
Posted by: bansheeguy77
i did hills before with very little run...all depends on if ya know how to work it. im not dissing your hills tho their big and i wouldnt climb them just saying theyre not impossible to climb
Posted by: RawEX
my 400ex
Posted by: RawEX
oh i know there not impossible but. im just saying i have had alot of ppl bet me money on these hill. saying that they would fly right up them w/ there banshee's/400ex's/raptors. and they ended up only making it half way because there is like no runner. most banshee's lose there power band on our hills thats why its so hard. 400's and raptors just die down in 2nd and 3rd gear.
I dont know. some of ya's should come take a ride here sometime and see for your self. i go riding every sat and sunday. just let me know and ill have directions for you. im also only about 1/2 hour to 45 min away from tower city so im not far away if you go there.
Posted by: RawEX
also. some very sweet hills out in ashland pa. there right behind a place called gouls pumps. now them hills are sick. i only seen banshee's make it. you come out of the woods at the bottom and your just strait up and down. there sick
i like hills but i know for a fact my 400 wouldnt make it.!

yea they took a huge section out of the side of one of the hills and they didnt get a permit to do it so now they have to build it back up and get a permit then take it out again. lol stupid ppl

that hill is not steep at all
you'd be surprised
Posted by: MOFO
I cant help but to laugh at the kids saying their big bad quad will go up any hill - no problem. They obviously have not been on BIG coal hills.
I dont care how good you ride, its all about power and wheel speed.

HAHA that climbs is really steep. I took the picture at an angle soo you could see him doing a wheelie up the climb. That is actuly one of the steepest hillclimbs around the area. Its about 150' long and it's almost strait up and down. I'de love to watch you climb that hill

naw, id say it is about 45 to 50 degrees, compared to the trees. If it were more than that, a 400 wouldn't easily wheelie up it...lol

How do you know he was easily wheelying up it? What if he wasn't intending on the wheely, it just was doing it? Compared to the trees, it is MUCH more than 45. Probably more like 60-65, maybe more, which is damn steep. Look at the distance from the tree to the side of the hill as it goes up, it doesnt change very fast. Ive never been to a coal hill, but I would still love to see you run right up it no problem at all.

ok then, 60-65, it doesnt matter. On a hill, like that its about 90% motor and 10% skill, and that is just knowing how to slip the clutch when the front comes up. The more difficult hills are the ones that are weaving through trees and over roots and still having to slip the clutch. The hills at west point are by far the most dangerous hills in the south east, i dont care what anybody says. If anybody on here has been to the top of $hit hill, you know what i mean.
By the way, I would love to see your quad come up college or the wall

Haha hills take alot more rider then motor. My friend goes up some hills on the 400ex "in the picture" that no normal man would think about. That hill is atleast 65-75 degreese. If you don't believe me come and ride with ous. You'll be in the hospital within minutes. Bye the way that's a 416ex done bye MIKE400EX it puts a dusting on stock yfz's and 450r's. Next time I'm there I'll take a picture from the bottom of the climbs. Then you can tell me how steep it is.

If you are referring to the hill in the picture or any hill of that sort, you are dead wrong. Heck, all you do is give it gas and slip the clutch when needed. Its not that hard. Plant a couple trees, then it will be a little more interesting.

Yeah you actuly go over a fallen down tree before you climb that hill. It's only got 10-15' of run if that. I doubt you know the exact climb I'm talking about. If you know then were is it? It can be described pretty easily. I'll probably be riding there on the 17th or 18th. I'de like to ride with all of you.

I cant make it the weekend of the 17th but I would also be interested in going on ride here as well. I still have the directions that you gave me kilabanshee and I could probably get a few people to go. Anyway let me know if and when some people are going to go.

All I need is a date and directions! I should have plenty of time in october so let me know!

if there were no such thing as hillclimbs i dont think i would be a rider
Posted by: quad2xtreme
If you go up these coal piles and don't make it, do you just dig in and stop? Meaning will you slide down backwards if you tried to stop when you don't make it? I've been up some pretty steep hillclimbs at Tower City, Blackwood, Paragon, and Hatfield McCoy. So far, I've always made it.
Just curious on how often a quad takes the backward tumble.
Just realized I don't list the 2001 Raptor I used to have. As far as climbing, it is a night and day difference versus the 400ex.
Thanks,
Jon

Is that coal or ash? If it's ash, I think I have ridden there.

Nice pics I would love to go up that. What kind of tires are you using? I have holeshots on my 450r do you think they would do good? I am supposing to be going out there in a couple of weeks.
Posted by: ATC350X 85
I am running the stock rear tires at 3 psi. It is crucial to have equal pressure in the tires or else those hills will pull you to whatever side has less pressure. I have a 13 T front sprocket and do those hills in 2nd gear pinned and keep the wheels spinning. Hole shots should do fine. The locals run super swampers or I believe bear claws or gators on there banshees and 450Rs. They say the mud tires do very well with the terrain out there on the hills. We might be going there on the 1st of Oct again, but I may bring my 350x that time.

We should be heading out that way in a week or so.

yeah were shooting for the 1st
