Night at the drag strip

Ahhhh what a fun night. I met up with Red00Honda400EX and had a blast. I got my *** handed to me. A raptor with a yoshimira exhaust, jetting, and a aftermarket airfilter won it. He was consistently running a 9.3 in the 1/8th mile around 68mph. Red00Honda400EX had the second fastest quad, in qualifying. A stock raptor showed up and ran second fastest after qualifieing. I became the laughing stock pretty much, hopped up 400ex that couldn't get out of its own way. When a blaster showed up everyone was like I wanna see you race him. I gladly handed him his *** lol

My best time was

R/T.... .911 (so damned scared of flipping)
60ft... 2.154
330ft. 6.378
1/8th. 10.153
63.99

Here is a picture of the time slip.

here is my worse run of the night. That is what happens when you stall it at the lights and look like an ***

Posted by: JustRace

here is a picture of Red00Honda400EX's quad and mine. He had his strapped down in the front, i eventually did that.

Posted by: JustRace

Here is a pic of Red00Honda400EX going down the track, it sucked so i didn't take many pics.

Looks good dude, did strapping help a lot?

I dropped 2 tenths off my time got it down to a 9.6@66 still banging the ole rev limiter before the finish line. Just Race let me borrow his white brothers and was generous enough to give me his K&N filter so next time I should be in the 9.3's hopefully. The 18" tires were really hindering the hell out of my top speed I'm hoping that rev limiter helps me out some but who knows. LOL I think i'm going to ask just race how he got that 6.?? 60ft I'd really like to cut something that good OHh and I beat that raptor my last run by less than a tenth of a second. Man those things move.

Posted by: JustRace

If i had lost to the blaster i would have killed everyone there so there would be no witnesses. lol

Posted by: JustRace

Some more pics, sorry that they suck they are off the video.
Here are two pics of Red00Honda400EX

Posted by: JustRace

him again, apparently my dad liked taping him more than me.

Posted by: JustRace

heres a picture of Red00Honda400EX giving the raptor a run for his money.

Posted by: Red00Honda400EX

That freakin raptor liked to play catch up. He always caught be right before the finish line that little SOB lol

Hey, Is the r/t reaction time? If it is you are sitting at the light tooooo long. When I drag I leave on the last Amber light and myReaction is hopefully .5 something. Under .500 is a foul But a 950 is 4/10s of a second to long. That's like 6 bikes at the end.

DID YOU FALL ASLEEP AT THE LINE.:confused2 U CUT SOME TERRIBLE LIGHTS THAT IS WHERE THE RACE IS WON ALSO STRAP BOTH THE FRONT AND THE BACK DOWN THE FRONT HELPS ALOT BUT THE STRAPING THE REAR IS EQUALLY IMPORTANT. ALSO U MAY WANT TO LOOK INTO SOME STRUTS. NO GIVE AT ALL

Posted by: Rip_Tear

You still did good, I mean common, the Raptor has 260 cc's on ya! Good job!

Thats why I was so far ahead of that raptor in that pic. I cut a .56 RT to his .9 something. I had my back strapped down and was running at least 2 tenths slower than when I just had my front strapped. I'm sticking to just the front from now on.

Posted by: 1fast400ex

YEAH I WAS THINKING DIRT DRAGS WHEN U STRAP JUST THE FRONT THE BIKE WILL SPINN WAY TO MUCH BUT ON BLACKTOP IT WOULD BE OK SORRY.

i wanna drag my banshee so badly, i know i could hit 90mph ( or at least i really think so!! lol) but i cant find a track close to me that has an atv class. is their a website to look at?? also do you guys get trophies for thoes races??

250xtreame: Where are you located at in PA?

Question for the rest. How many times have you guys been to the track? Not bad slips overall. 600' you would have won, but that is the problem with horsepower on a long track it always wins.

You guys may also want to change gearing so you will have more top end. It may help you hold that raptor off long enough to get the win.

Posted by: JustRace

That was my first ever time at the track. We were running on the pro tree (i think thats the one). It would go right to staging then just flash down to the green. I also found out that my quad is extremely lean on the top end. I'm not worried about how bad i did. I had fun and thats the only reason i went is to have fun. I am gonna get some 18" hoosiers hopefully before i go back.

The problem with mine wasn't top end. It wasn't getting to the top end. I was running through the trap in 4th gear. 63.9mph in 4th gear isn't bad. My quad just needs to get up to the speed faster.

I thought i would also add that the kid that showed up with the 03 stock raptor told me he weighed 130lbs, that must have been when he was soaking wet because he looked like he was 12. Before he broke off his awesome run, after qualifying, he was running 10.2 to 10.3.

Posted by: 86atc250r

I ran my old 416 thru twice. Both times with my full XC setup, unchanged, so I know I could do better if I pulled some of the excess weight off and used some lighter flat track style tires as well as changing the suspension setup (had to be careful off the line to not wheelie).

Was also geared with 16/38 sprockets & 20" 6 ply RAZRs

This run shows my 416 vs what the owner claimed to be a heavily modded Raptor (before we raced). Had a bad R/T on this one, but the other one was by myself.
http://home.earthlink.net/~gellett/images/tmp/400ex_run3.gif

Also note that this track doesn't normally run 1/4 mile and had their last set of lights positioned incorrectly (hence the high 1/4 mile speeds)

Posted by: Derno24

That statement was meant for the guy who said he was hitting the rev limiter at the end of the track. If the raptor caught him at the end just a little more in the gearing might have prevented that.

Glad to hear you guys had fun though. It does get addicting just trying to better your own time.

Posted by: Red00Honda400EX

I am going to use Just Races WB rev limiter to see if I can hold it out in the 8th next time I go. If that fails I'm going to order a what is it 36 (2 down on the rear) And see what that does for me.

Posted by: JustRace

My biggest problem is my own fault. I messed up shifting numerous times. I'm gonna rejet my carb. I have the stock needle in my edelbrock (which is for a stock machine). I think i have a lot of potential left in it. Also Red said i need to learn how to just slowly let the clutch out instead of popping. So i'm gonna work on it. Its definately an experience, win or lose. I don't care if i win (i really want to though) , i just want to improve my own times.

Posted by: Derno24

I notice alot of people better their times with some gear playing.

Quarter mile drags are very addicting. Especially if you think you can go faster. I have seen some guys who don't eat prior to running. As if that is going to help.

Posted by: mikeboone

I ran a 9.53 at 77.19 mph in the 1/8 with the old 416 setup and 6 ply knobbies (stock carb too) Going this week to see what the 440 and FCR will put out...

Posted by: JustRace

77.19? How did you manage that high of a trap speed? You ran 10 mph faster than the raptor that won last friday, but you ran a slower time.

Posted by: mikeboone

16 front sprocket w/ stock rear on 20" Holshot XCR's. The et would have been alot better had I kept the front end down and on the gas the whole time. I can tell you the 416 pulled like a mofo on mid and top with that setup: JE 416-Hotcams stage II-ported/polished head-yoshi pipe. I have friends on atvnc.com that race Raptors that just do match my top speed but with a better et. You need to match your gearing to the track length and power you have avail. I have 16/36 gearing on 18" slicks now with 4" drop f/r.

Posted by: JustRace

damn that is flying. I am rejetting my quad and running there again on friday. I didn't realize how bad my jetting was till someone that actually knows something about motors heard it run and rode it. Hopefully it will help a lot and i'll be fast enough to get out of 4th gear.
