i have ridden a couple of 2001 raptors and never really liked them. Today I had the chance to ride a 2003 raptor. The bike shifts way better, and the gearing is way more useful. Reverse is still geared too high, but the forward gears work much better. For those die hard raptor haters out there, ride a newer one before you down the raptor.
