MY YZ conversion updates & pics so far

here it is so far.... im waiting on my new shocks, and money to finish my motor....
cases are being powder coated next week, i am installing all new bearings and stuff, new crank, 12.25:1 wiseco piston, and a few other goodies.
Head is going to fastway this week for a valve job, and some porting updates. (it was ported about 2 years ago.... so he is going to change a few things an it should be back in about 2 weeks)
once i get the motor done.... and the shocks in (should be in in about 2 weeks) ..... all i really need yet is to make my stainless braided oil lines..... and i have a lot of parts to finish polishing..... hopefully it will be done in about a month.... let me know what you think
Posted by: mxracer111
the subframe will also be BLUE.... i was going to have it chromed till i found out they wanted like $300 to do it......
Posted by: Chanman420q
SIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIICK
Posted by: mxracer111
heres the back
Posted by: Pvt. Maggot
Extremely nice. why not just get the subframe powdercoated chrome?
anyway thats one hell of a bike..let me know if you need any help polishing.
Posted by: Pvt. Maggot
holy crap i just saw that ct70 in the backround what year is it? thats the same color and everything as mine. :devil
Posted by: OutlawEX
POS:blah
Posted by: mxracer111
i dont really care for the "chrome" powder coat.... just wont do justice against real chrome..... id rather have it match the frame.
the CT 70 is like a 71 i think... nice pit bike at the track.
the only polishing help i need is finding a good polishing motor....for a reasonable price.... i dont want to use a bench grinder....i am looking for o polishing motor with the extended shafts ....so i can do larger items without the motor getting in the way.... but i dont want to spend $400 for a new one.
Posted by: Pvt. Maggot
yeah mines a 71 too. i dunno where you could find one...in my opnion bigger items you might as well use a rag...it takes longer but i think it comes out better...just my 2 cents..
Posted by: nacsracer27
i dont understand how using a rag is easier for big things, this case isnt small and was done with a 1 1/2 HP Balldor buffer with the extended shafts that hes talking about, i dont think a rag woulda made it turn out better than this
Posted by: bluebaron
that is crazy

omg, that is sooo sweet.

Very sick man
Posted by: Paul400ex2002
sick man! i'm thinking about doing that conversion late summer, through the fall. I'll make sure to check with you with any problems i run into.
Posted by: Paul400ex2002
also you are using a stock 400ex frame correct? how difficult is it to mount the radiator and all the stuff up to a stock frame? That's a lot cheaper alternative to a lonestar or some other frame.
Posted by: 300exazzkikr
very nice man, makes me very jealous. Keep up with the pics as you progress...
Posted by: mxracer111
New updates.... i havent had much time to work on it... but jsut got the new motor together tonight....

Hey how did you manage to fit the YZF 400 engine in the frame without doing any cutting. I don;t mean engine I mean like the Radiator and stuff.
How is it mounted?

I did no cutting whats so ever also.. Me and Mxracer111 had custom oil tanks made so we wouldnt have to chop the frame
Posted by: DaveEX7
Im jealous.
How much does it cost you guys to do these kinda projects?
Posted by: racerx573
Its probly close to 10K to do the project starting with a stock EX. Using an aftermarket frame and going from scratch, anywhere from 15K to 25K, depending on how much chrome and polish you desire.
Posted by: DaveEX7
WOW, i only had 1500 to toss into the 250.
Posted by: mxracer111
my guess is i have about 12-$15,000 in it starting from scratch... but chrome alone was over 1,000... i started with a brand new frame from honda....some motor mount changes were made and a lot of reinforcing....and alot of work that was all done myself, except for the welding and the powdercoating and chroming i did it all....
Posted by: Mxbubs
I chopped the frame to get the bigger Radiator in there. My radiator holds more than most other aftermarket ones. I do not regret chopping it. A frame is cheaper to get than to fixed a burned up motor.
Posted by: OutlawEX
I have about 8k into mine doesnt seem like alot for this
Posted by: EXracer8604
yea but you also paid 500 for it

I didnt include the cost of the bike. I got my 400 for 500 and put 2k in it at least but i didnt add any of my ex parts to this new machine

Burger King is the manufacturer, and all you simply do is order it, and eat away at it until your satisfied.

hahaha

I got it for free because i traded a $500 dirtbike suspension for it and its a brandnew shock
The Bk mod is something done to ur caruburator if i rember correctly. I beleive u cut a wire. The BK mod doesnt work on the YZF400 if i rember correctly
Posted by: Mxbubs
The bk mod is done to the carb. It just shortens the initial amount of gas sprayed when you dump the throttle. It will keep it from bogging down.
The blue wire has nothing to do with the carb. Its limits the spark on starting, so starting is harder. Cut it, and the bike will start easier.
Posted by: DaveEX7
Why do they call it the BK mod though?

Last i heard he was waiting on a gas tank.. He cut his hand pretty good so he was delayed. He was talkin about going to Roucsh or something like that :confused2
Posted by: Jumbo747
that brought a tear to my eye....no joke
Posted by: mxracer111
hey guys.... sorry its been so long since an update....
outlaw was right.... i cut my hand about a month or so ago pretty bad... cut a tendon in one of my fingers and i had surgery and all....doctors still dont want me to be riding ... i am not supposed to squeeze my hand... and it is my clutch hand so i guess ill still wait a bit... although it works fine and doesnt hurt or anything... i just dont want to take the chance that ill tear the tendon...
but anyway... i have been slowly working on it since i cant really ride it....
it runs... and i have rod it around the parking lot... it rolls... i love it... couldnt be happier with how it has turned out...
i am still waiting on the sidecovers to get powdercoated... the guy is having a hard time coating the magnesium. also have to put on my stainless braided clutch hose., instlall the polished radiator shrouds... and find some graphics that i like... tighten some bolts...play with jetting etc.
nothing major left.... i just want to ride.
So far starting up my business has been the best thing i have ever done . things are going well.... but could always be better.... soon i will start advertising up here on Exriders and get to helping you guys out. once i get a lil bigger. but so far things have been great.
here are some pics that i took for you guys today... its almost finished. AHHHHH cant post pics..i forgot....well... ill try to have them up on my website for you to see sometime tomorrow...www.woodwardspecialties.com
Posted by: mxracer111
o yeah... and about raush .... i might try to roll up there sat. i cant ride hard or really do much.. i might just come and try and jet this thing and meet some of you... the quad wont be 100% since i wont have time to get some of the stuff done... but id like to just come put around... we will see how things go

Nice work man. you think that is faster than a yfz450? looks nicer than mine
Posted by: freeride132
the yfz is pretty tame compared to that motor
did you have to do anything to the rear swingarm? i was talking to a guy who built a crf off a baldwin kit and he had to mill down his swingarm on the left side so that he could get the sprocket to line up, is that a problem with how you did you yz?
thanks
Posted by: freeride132
oh yeah is it necessary to have louvers or shrouds
Posted by: freeride132
oh yeah did you buy a aftermarket intake manifold ( carb to motor) that changed the angle of the carb?
Posted by: mxracer111
no you dont have to machine the swingarm.... however you do have to get a sleeve to put between your motor and your pivot bolt... since the honda bolt is thinnner than the yz.
as far as airbox... right now i have just a stock 400ex setup on ther and it clamps right onto the carb....
some gusseting modifications were done to make more room for the carb boot and the subframe was modified in the front to make room also.
the shrouds and louvers are not necessary.... ive been riding it around without them on....
however with the walsh radiator they were included and look awesome.... and im sure they force more air in as well.... my shrouds are all polished to a mirror finish anyway so they will look sweet too.
Posted by: freeride132
i got a email from lsr they sell a airbox adapter for the crf and yzf
Posted by: mxracer111
what sort of airbox adapter do they use? i dont see any need for one....the 400ex airbox will work.... but just out of curiousity... id like to see what it is.
Posted by: freeride132
it uses the stock 400ex but the new or boot is made to fit the yz or crf motor, im not sure what it looks like they said it retails for 46 bucks
