yeah so i just got my shock rebuilt and put back on today, i took it out for my first ride in about a month, not even out of my yard for 10 minutes i clear a driveway and the snow catches my front tires and directs me right into a telephone poll. i ripped my top and bottom a-arms clear off the frame, my shock is bent, frame is most likely bent, radiator is messed, radiator shrouds are totaled, plastic is bent. if my insurance totals it i am gonna get a brand new 400ex, what u guys think?

yea i ddi a similar thing with my 400ex. i was goin up my freinds driveway and it wasnt even 5minutes and i hit a tree, tore my right front tire clean off (didnt hurt the a arms), and bent my nerf bars back and lost skin on my pinky. yea it sucked

Colby had one a couple of years ago and we took it to the track for the 1st time he rode it a lap then I got on and went almost a 1 lap I tried jumping through a narrow spot and there we went fliped a couple of times and I ended up underneath I did not get hurt at all but the handlebars had my pants pinned and I could not lift the heavy brute off me

I would say definatly weight wise I would get a 400ex unless you are a bigger guy that can man handle the beast

yeah i liked the DS cuz it was bigger, i could throw it aroun dno prob and planned on racing some MX this summer with it. but now i am gonna get a EX and see how i do on that for a little bit. thought about a z-400 or that kawi one, but i think i wanna go honda, can u guys think of any reasons not to get a 400ex? if i wanna race MX still will it be a competitive compared to others? i am just scared i'll hop on a 400 and be disapointed with the power.

oh and with the 400ex i would get a bore kit or something to make up for the power that your used to on your ds. but it will be better for mx than your ds too.

The EX wont be as wide, nor have as much power, nor as good stock suspension, but Its a MUCH better MX racing platform to start with!

Just get a pipe, and a few other mods and you'll be happy, I'm sure

i didnt know that quad insurance covered crashes. I thought it would only cover falling off a trailer on the road or being stolen.

yeah i got full coverage so i'm sure they will take care of it. yeah my insurance will go up, but its in my moms name. since i just turned 18 and if the insurance does go up i will insure my new quad with my name and it will be like a clean record

After you click "post reply" under "Options" it will say "Attach File" you go to "Browse" and go to the location you saved the picture to on your computer then open the picture....then it will say the location of the pic and stuff in the little box next to the browse button....

A guy at a small shop here in NJ just picked up a DS with that same basic damage for almost nothin. Seems like this one hit a tree or pole etc direct center head on, and the a arms broke off like they were held on with tooth pics and they werent even hit in the accident.

If they do total it and make payment you may want to think about buying the salvage since you know the quad well and what it needs and could fix it up and sell it etc.

yep its as bad as i imagined.... ripped them right off so how fast were you going? well at least its in the winter so you dont really want to ride much anyways.

I dont think that insurance will write if off, sorry just my opinion.

You can get lots of different insurance deals, like: third, collision, theft, fire... etc

It just costs more for more. Its worth it though, even if you never have to use it, because if you dont have it, you will need it.

i was goin pretty fast, probably 3rd gear pinned. well i got every kind of coverage on it so it will be covered, with a 250 deductable. i imagine it will be totaled out it needs a new frame, radiator, a-arms, handlebars, brake perch/lever, thumb throttle. but who knows they might just fix it.

Ds's are still tuff SOB's. i dont think any other quad could of took that hit and been any better off.

That is normally the case but they also end up selling them very cheap either as salvage or at auction so if they would let you buy the salvage since it was your quad you could still get the money and then by it back.

And yours isnt looking as bad as the other one I had seen but they both did break the a-arms in the exact same place. Maybe its a weak point but the other one still tweaked and crushed the frame.

well, got an estimate. they say it will cost $4800 to fix it, so my guess is that they will total it.

i will get $4500. the dealer around here wants $5000 grand for a EX out the door and $5400 i think for a Z out the door, hmm decisions decisions.

lol ok i cant really sell the DS since it is totaled, and my problem is i cant decide between a Z or a EX. the Z is nice but i guess the shock mounts are weak spots. i want a quad for jumping and thats all i need is the Z breaking on jumps. i think the EX is the way to go.

I would say get a used 400ex...you could get one around 3 grand,...and put the rest of the money into tires, fenders, pipe, filter, bars...thats cheaper than a new one and would be nicer.

saturday i am goin to look at a 416ex. the body is basically stock but the motor has a cam, ported, 416, a bunch of other things i cant remember, K&N filter, holes in lid, and i think WB full exaust. i wants 3800 without the lowering kit and swaybar. he was gonna race it in TT but i guess he wants a truck now.

dude my friend has a ds, he races mx w/ it. he has prolly about 12g's in it though! last season alone because of the weight he broke 7 shock shafts! he finally put some pro-seris on there, but mx the ds is way too heavy. and yes i can beat him every time on my shee!!

really? that sux man, to me i liked the DS for MX i could handle it pretty good, and i was comfortable jumping it. i grew up on heavier quads though, like 4x4's. now i just got a EX and i hope i will like it for jumping as much as my old DS.
