I am going to be getting a Raptor soon and all of my riding is at the dunes. My uncle also has a Raptor and he has Sand Skate 2's and they dont seem to hook up that good. I want some thing that can turn good and has even better forward bight. What would be the best paddles for me?

I live in Ohio and everyone knows how many dunes we have here... I think I might be going to Silver Lake this year though and is it 100% necessary to have paddles?

Sand Skate 2's will work fine for you...most people complain that they hook up to good...do a search on it. I've used them for years on all my quads and have no complaints. They are a great play tire if you are worried about "hook up" then go for a straight paddle and run razor backs up front to help you turn.
You don't have to have paddles for the sand but it sure make it a lot easier to climb dunes and much more fun too.

For what it's worth, a bunch of our friends hit Silver Lake last fall, some for the first time, most of them w/OUT paddles. Those w/ paddles kicked butt in the sand compared to those w/out. We're all going up in a few months, WITH paddles (Even Rob and I who have never been there).
Just an FYI...

I'm been riding at Silver Lake all last year with OUT paddles. I just let the air down in my tires to about 4 psi and had only minor problems. While paddles would have been much better, they are not necessary. Especially if you are not going to be riding in sand more than once or twice a year. You will have the most problems in the afternoon/evening after the sand starts to get powdery. In the morning when it is still damp from the dew at night, you should not really need paddles.
I am currently looking for paddles for this year. I plan on riding at Silver Lake many times this year. So I think it will be a good investment.
