what if any are 250r problems that i should look out for on an R that i buy. Please be specific and tell me which problem for which year (if applicable).

the 85 and 86's dont have a kick starter over kick stop block. you can over kick them and crack a case.

there is a lil list of things to look for as in many other machines ....your best bet is to research the threads ..

good info 2'rs!

stuff to look for:
-cracked frames
-ugly welds on frame
-sit quad on grabbar and check underneth for any major rust
-get someone to list of the rear end of the quad by the grabbar and you can wooble the axle up and down to check for bad bearings
-you can wobble tires side to side to check for bad wheel bearings
-i think it was the 86s that had the problem with 3rd gear flying outta the case? ask the owner if it ever happened

thats just a few things, but all of those i listed can be replaced and fixed. dont buy a dud R just cause you want one. look around and look for the one in best condition. remeber the newest 250r is 14 years old.

check random bolts for stripped out ness, or epoxyed in the hole, that ussally is a sign that the quad owner doesnt know what is what, like he used to wrong tools on bolts and such, this is more for a quad with ALOT of stripped heads, check for weird sounds, measure the overall quad, like left side and right side for signs of a tweaked frame, ask the guy if he ajusted his valves lately, and if he has put in a new cam, if he says yes to any of those, that is not the R to buy

i pretty sure the R I am talking about has no valves or cams. :blah we all make mistakes.
