Pics of my Yamahonda front end!!!

I finally got my Raptor hood put onto my 440 front end! It came out exactly like I hoped - it took a little work and alot of plastic trimming, but it fits great, and it's on very secure. You can't see it in the pic, but I also have a piece of galvanized expanded metal just behind the plastic to act as a roost shield/grill. I figured I would get alot of flak about having a Raptor hood on my Honda, but everyone who saw it at the track yesterday thought is was great! It also gets alot more air flowing to my teeny tiny oil cooler!

Here is one more pic of it while it was still clean!

Posted by: exriderdude

whoa, that looks awesome

Posted by: 400grl

Thanks! I forgot to mention that the plastic is thick on the hood, so it was easy to install my ignition switch and neutral light on it........

Posted by: YLW400

I think it looks cool...Different, but cool

Posted by: sly400ex

Definately trick looking!

Posted by: Str8Wicked

That like putting a chevy emblem on a ford... I dunno bout that man...

Good work thou, that must have been pretty hard and you made it look great...

Posted by: 400grl

Thanks! Yeah - I know - I had this moral dilemma thing going on for a while....but I think I'm getting over it!

Good job thou.... must of taken a lot of vision to even try this....

I was playing around with the hood of our Raptor when we were in the garage a couple weeks ago, and just for fun, I stuck it over the lights of my 400ex, and it looked like if the lights weren't in the way, it could actually fit on there - and I needed to get them off, anyway. Yamaha has a carbon/fiber look-a-like hood, too - for their limited edition Raptors that would probably look pretty cool, too - but I got the red hood pretty cheap......

Looks pretty dang good I think..get more closeup pics of it..

Posted by: 400grl

I can make the pics i have a little bigger......try this....

Posted by: Str8Wicked

I wanna see how it meets at the side...

Posted by: 02 Red Rider

Very nice job.

Posted by: 400grl

I blew up the side view pic a little, if you copy the pic and blow it up to about 120% you can see a little better, although it starts to get fuzzy......even though the Honda nose piece isn't at as quite an angle as the Raptor front, the plastic flexes well and you can secure it so it holds the shape of the nose. It's also made so the lower part of the hood sets into the plastic, and the outer edge is actually what you see resting on the Honda nose. I have it secure with the two holes at the top (drilled two extra holes in the Honda plastic) where i used heavy duty plastic rivets with screw inserts.......then on the bottom of the plastic I drilled another hole in the Honda plastic where the Yamaha hole is already drilled, and used another heavy-duty plastic rivet/screw combo. If you carve the plastic right on the nose, the Raptor hood actually sets into it very well. I also have two small red zipties (they are really hard to see) along the sides (one on each) to secure the hood flush with the plastic (in towards the middle of the sides) and ease some of the tension on the 3 plastic rivets. I was going to use bolts to hold it on, but up at the top the plastic is almost flush along the gastank, and they wouldn't have worked real well - besides, the rivets look alot better.

Sorry I can't get a better pic - I don't have a digital camera yet - I ganked these off of www.gomxracing.com (my buddy runs the site, and he has a great camera, so he snapped a couple shots for me!) I'll try to swipe it from him next week for some close-ups!

:blah :devil

Looks awsome! Looks like you did a good job.

Posted by: OutlawEX

that looks sweet

Posted by: hondafox400

Why would you want to make your Honda look like a Craptor?

Nice work though.. lol.

Posted by: 400grl

It's not that I wanted it to look like a Raptor......I just wanted a front hood that no one else had on their 400, and I figured it would allow alot of air through.

Posted by: DGR Designs

that looks surprislingley good..... im serious! now if you could find a small headlight that would tuck in there it would be great!

Posted by: racin 400

umm i might have to talk to my friends with raptors and try to get a black or red 1.

Posted by: 400grl

Posted by: racin 400

I would like to use a shee hood just a thought.

Posted by: LRD_27

it is hard to put the raptor plastic on the EX????

Posted by: trx400ex

Hey, how much $ is one of those raptor hoods? I think it looks great and props for being the first to do it!

Posted by: Sparks425Ex

Looks Very Trick

Posted by: Pappy

very inventive...and from the pics it dont look bad

Posted by: 400grl

With one of my sponsor discounts, I got the hood for around $25.00 new.........the expanded metal piece I got was about $8.00.....the Porsche rivets were free (hee hee).....and $2 for the red zipties. That's about $35.00 all together!

And it took me a couple of hours to get my Honda plastics cut out correctly (I kept putting it back on the frame and taking if off to measure it and see if this would really work) and the Raptor hood to fit well. I did that in my kitchen.......once I knew the plastics would go on, I worked on the mesh grille to go behind it. I finished it all here at the Porsche shop where I work, so I had tools and rivets, etc. All together I'd say, from start to finish, it took me about 5-6 hours.....if I did it again, it would only take a couple.

I think it looks great!

Posted by: luvmyex

That does look really good.Did you have to trim the hood or the honda plastic? And is that skin graphics on a Girls fohundred. MEEEOOOOWWW!!!my kind of woman:devil

Posted by: 400grl

Yeah - I like SKIN stuff...... I had to cut my Honda plastic, but not the Raptor hood. I went a little at a time - if I messed up my Honda plastic I didn't have enough $ to buy any more!!!

Posted by: Rip_Tear

That is mighty sweet looking! I was wondering what I was going to see from that title "Yamahonda", Good job!

lmao

Posted by: 400grl

That would explain why I was two-wheeling it around the corners last race..... LOL!!!

Posted by: 400grl

Hmmmmmm.......well, after talking with a few people I am sort of kicking aroung the idea of making a few sets of stock front plastics/hoods/grills like mine and selling them as a kit - whoever buys it would just have to put it on their quad. Just want to see if there is an interest out there. Mine will be going through alot of racing in the next couple weeks, so I can make sure it all holds up well.....just curious if anyone would be interested in something like that? I'm probably gonna chrome my grille, too.

Posted by: YLW400

Hey 400grl, I know this is off topic, and I apologize But are you running +2 or +3 a-arms? Thanks, YLW
