I know you said only post if I own one, but I would like to know what a wrist wrester is?? My wife flipped on her quad about a year and a half ago and broke both her wrists. Now when she rides her wrists really bother her, especially on whoops, and this sounded like something that may help take some of the stress off her wrists while riding.
Thanks.

in my opinion, not worth the money. Very uncomforatable with the bars that move around a little on you! I would suggest a steering stablizer, anti-vibe handlebar mounts (on most aftermarket steering stems or other options like that before spending the money on the wrist rester product.

I have been running a wrist rester device that I make myself. Works similar to the Houser device. I am not convinced that it is worth much. I have been using it without a steering stabilizer/damper. It will cushion the impact on your wrist on a nose down landing that is even on both frt wheels and help a little on certain whoops but does nothing on a steering jar - that is what causes most wrist problems. A stabilizer will help in this area though. I just bought a denton stabilizer and have not installed it yet. I beleive it will help the more common problems that the wrist wrester will not.
I would spend my money on a stabilzer and save the bucks for the wrester.

lol 3 posts?
the wrist wrester is not meant for dampening the steering.
It sounds like smith had the wristwrester set to soft.It is suppose to be set stiff so it only does it on fairly hard impacts(thats when its suppose to save your wrists.)
If in fact at the stiffist setting it is still soft(because you weigh alot) then you can change the spring out for a stiffer one. I dont think houser does this but u can swap the springs, One of my friends did because hes on the heavy side.
I have used the wrist wrester on both my friends bikes(both r's) and you dont notice it until your bombing through whoops and happen to hit the face of one. (thats when you notice)
especially when you expect to get jolted from the impact like you normally would, but in delight you feel the bars move and cushion the jolt.
this cushioning actually keeps your body from getting worn out as soon(constant jolts to the body wear you out)
Its all in the set up.
I just got off the phone with John Houser and they stopped using the spherical bearing that used to be sold with them because it wore out to quick. He said the stock bearing is very durable.
like I said before the movement on the bottom of the stem is minimal so the bearing doesnt move to much and the stock seals work with it.

Yes, mine is very stiff and you never notice any bar movement unless you hit into a whoop or land a big jump on the nose. ( I have came up short on a jump before and hit right into the face, I could feel the wrester device give and provide some cushion but it still hurt like ****) It does offer some cushion then but it is not worth the money in my opinion. In my case it cost me nothing since I made it myself so the benefit is there at no cost. I do not beleive the benefit is worth the price of the houser unit unless you have already put everything you want on your quad and you just have money to spend and are looking for somewhere to dump it.
I know that it is not meant to dampen the steering. That is what I was trying to say. That it won't and dampening the steering is probably more important than cushioning on the whoops. If you have the money though, why not get both.

id like to see a pic of yours if thats possible.
if you havent used the houser how can you say it doesnt work well?
Posted by: boogiechile
I don't have a digital camera or a scanner for a pic but I might could find someone to let me borrow one. I did not say that the Houser one does not work well and it may be better than mine. But I beleive they work very much alike. Mine has more travel then the houser, 3/4 compaired to 5/8 and it uses an MCU from a mountain bike frt fork to dampen the spring. What i am saying is that even though it does work to give some cushion, I beleive the cost for what you get is high. I think the Houser is about $260 or so isn't it. If you have the money to spend than that is great, but I would rather spend that money where i get more bang for the buck.
Afterall one of 2-R's original questions was "do you think it is worth the money" I was simply giving my opinion on this. Not trying to start a fight or anything. and no I have never riden with a Houser one but i have seen them and even spent some time talking to John about them at one of the Nationals. I am sure they work, mine does, but not $260 worth.

Wrist resters are awesome. I use one and love it. I recently rode a quad with out one installed on it and could not stand it. It does take some getting used to, but its definatly worth it.

thanx for info here
...anyone else have some info to share on these ?

I hear ya boogie, no fightin
I will add this though. the stem moving is more a psychological problem then anything.
I could see how it could spook someone, I mean, if the stem would move on me it would bug me out, I guess you have to over come that "your gonna fall the stem is loose" mentality?
I dunno just speculating.

Not sure, I saw a set of prototypes last spring. They promised to have them ready to sell 2003. One of the dirt bike mags did an article on them. I will see if I can get more info this weekend. (Borders magazine rack is great)
