Does anyone use or has heard of using WD-40 to spray all over motor and chassis (except brakes) during storage or after washing? I've heard of this about 3 times now, and it has me curious if this is good or bad.

It works great for short term only (a week or 2) if you keep your bike clean. My of the top bike riders go thru cases of it. I chose to do that with out washing my bike and ended up with caked on crud that took a wire brush to remove.

WD stands for water displacement

Its fine to coat cleaned parts to try and remove the water, and protect from oxidation,
but like he said if its not clean your gonna be making a concrete like substance that is very stubborn to remove.

There are many smaller chem co's that make long term metal protectants or preservers etc.

Many contain lanolin and can also ge a little tough to remove but also dont have any of the other crap thats in WD so it wont permenantly scar everything.

Try to find stuff like that at a industrial supply or mill supply distributor, look in the yellow pages.

WD isnt for use on everything, and thats mostly because they try to make it for everything.

whats good for one isnt good for the other
