ATV Stack -A- Quad racks

After getting a few inquiries regarding my racks, I though I'd post a few pictures of how they work. I built them from standard supplies purchased from Home Depot and Menards. A MIG welder will come in handy building something like this, but could still be done with rivets and other standard harware. The lifting is done with a high lift handy man jack. Just lift one side then pin it. Then go to the other side and repeat till your all the way up. The platform is built to float, but is reinforced from the underside with 2X4s , as to not slide and fall out of the two side lifting rails. They look kind of crude & are a little slow to raise and lower, but have worked quite well for me. I've got about $200 and 8hrs. of labor in each rack. As they say a picture's worth a thousand words.

Posted by: troybilt

Hey this isn't your collection is it? This is amazing...

Posted by: troybilt

The only one you need is a cherry 89...

Posted by: red88r

thanks for the info. that is exactly what i was lookin for. graet way to save some space. very nice collection. neat to see so many clean r's in one place. i'm so jealous!

Posted by: badquad

Holy this is where all the sweet R's are at!! Nice collection.

I built a stand for my quads, but I built mine out of 2x6 and I have to lift them by man strength or drive my quad on top with a 2x6 ramp.

Nice set up!

Yes, that's my garage and Rs from the "crated R" posts. I've got an '89 in the works here too. It's an all OEM complete bike. It still needs to go down to the frame and get the full resto treatment. Thanks for the compliments, guys!
Here are a few close up pics of the frame work on the racks. It's kind of hard to tell what's, what in the photos. The eye can be confused looking at these, even for me and I built the darn things. Hope this works for ya.

Keep up the good work! I take it that this collections is saved for your son in one of the pics that you snapped with your new ATC you brought home?

Just kidding man...that's an unreal collection.

Thanks for sharing!

Dan

You know, its guys like you that make guys like me sick!! LOL J/K!! Man, that is one sweet collection. Either you're not married or you have a very understanding wife.

Posted by: k10seibel

Thanks, I'll pass the kind words on to my wife. I'm married with two little ones, 3 & 5. My wife is a real trooper. She never gets to park her car inside the garage when it snows. She makes me brush the snow off and warm up her car.

Hands down the most awesome collection I've ever seen. Are you going to keep going with your museum of 250r's? I mean like 82-84 ATC's as well?

Also you have overall dimensions of those stackers? I really like this idea and want to build my own similar ones. Thanks!

I have one of those understanding wives too

K10, can I ask you another question about the resto of those quads? I have a similar great shape, 89 and stripped down to the frame for powder, how did you get the decals etc... off of the frame before PC'ing. I mean the warning labels and origin stickers? heat gun? Did you reglue those down? Sorry to hijack the thread, but obviously you've got experience!

Ask away, I always say. Troy, you are by no means a hijacker. Fire away, bud!

Fist off the rack dimensions overall are approximately 57" tall X 58" wide X 82" long. The deck platform is 54" X 79" and a max height of 51" off the floor. This set up was figured by my garage ceiling height of 8'2". I needed to split the 8' height in half and still have room for a standard TRX/ATC 250R to fit.
At the time I owned a real wide Suzuki LT 500 and made the rack just wide enough to except the LT to fit underneath (too heavy for the top). So, anyway.... Build to suit whatever ATVs you have. It's dang hard to really give exact specs to build by because your shop/ garage may allow for a bigger or smaller set up and your quad heights widths may be also differant.

As far as the decals go, just like you guessed, I use a heat gun and a box cutter blade. The decals are usually junk and not reusable after peeling them off. I managed to get a couple off in one piece (they stretched mind you). I sent them off to be reproduced and have a pretty decent copy. It's not perfect, but getting these done absolutely perfect can be a long arduous task. I work with a few different decal suppliers and will be ordering more shortly here if you are interested. The Warning, Coolant, 20:1 Ratio, Tire Pressure, and Model Year ID "foil" decals are all reproductions of originals, as well as a host of old school aftermarket logos and vintage marketing/sponsor stickers.

Here's a few more pics to check out. Hope this is of some help. Let me know if you've got any more questions.

K19 I have a question......is there anything you don't have or have access to? Also, in your "will" can you..........just kidding, I had to say that.

Posted by: troybilt

Wow!! I just noticed the Fourtrax remote control still in the box. That is awesome. Ever thought about opening a place up so people can view your collection? I know I'd make the drive to see that! Do you collect all Honda or any vintage atv's in general? Sooo... whatelse do you have.

Regarding the decals. Let me know when you'd be ordering, I would like to get a set of the warning decals etc.. for my 89 if they aren't too expensive.

You guys are waaaaaaaaay to kind. I'm just a stooge from the midwest with a sickness! We eat alot of peanut butter and jelly here! LOL!
I may have some nice stuff, but I'm small change compared to a few out there with deep pockets and a bunch more room.
Thanks though!

I just placed an order with extras, so when they get here I'll PM ya.
I'll make a thread here "250R R/C Toys" a little later.
Thanks again for the kind words!

Andy, do you happen to do any chrome work??

Posted by: k10seibel

Sorry, no chrome services here. Just powder coating. If it can fit in this oven then I can most likely do it. Chrome is a bit over my head. Sorry, but thanks!
