Outerwares durability?

Both my 400's and my 250r all have this problem. At the top and the bottom of KN filter, the Outerwares gets holes(along the edges). I can't tell if its from rubbing or heat burning it. They are not big holes, but I can tell my Outerware isn't going to last a long time. Does anyone else have this problem and have any tips. Or is it just not that durable. I think it would be less of a problem if KN didn't put the chrome metal cap on the filter, and just left it rubber.

Mine has holes too

i'm sure it's from rubbing on the filter.

I might switch to a UNI...not just because of that but for easier maintenance.

Mine used to get two small holes but since I had cut off the two small plastic tabs that hold up the filter it doesnt happen anymore.

You may want to try that.
