I dont have an owners manual or anything. Can someone tell me the recommended oil?

Id like to add some oil that can help with valve ticking if thats what it is, the quad starts easy and runs good, but a loud ticking noise.

Thicker oil quiet this up some?

Any recommendations?

I run rotella 5w-40 synthetic in my 04 predator. I read somewhere on here that ticking noise is normal. Mine ticks a little but not that bad. Rotella oil is alot cheaper than Polaris brand. Good luck.

i run the polaris ps4 plus it was designed for the predator. dont cheap out on oil its what may make you engine last compared to other stuff. use the good stuff and whats recommended. the ticking noise, try adjusting the valves

well adjusting the valves/lifters in the predator isn't as easy as it should be... using shims? kinda iffy if u ask me.

I know some ticking is normal, but this is annoying.

if its that bad were its annoying its prob from loose valve clearnces , yes the shims makes adjusting the valves a bit of a pain but checking the clearnces are just as easy

most, if not all, DOHC use a bucket shim assembly. It can be more time consuming but it isnt less reliable as anything else. I would go as far as to say ticking is not normal. Mine doesn't tick at all and its an 05 with a fair amount of work into it. Anyone that says x oil is better because the manufacturer sells it is probably overpaying IMO. Ive run rotella (dino) since day one and its still going strong. Id be willing to bet that after everything is said and done the only adjustments you would need to make are on the intake side. It also depends on what the sound is exactly.....if it sounds like a sewing machine then it is valve noise if it sounds like a slightly louder metallic klinking noise that only does it at idle than its probably the decomp and youre bike could benefit from having the idle turned up a little.

this thread would have been better served in the polaris section IMO
