It is when you retard the exhaust cam one tooth, it makes it rev like the yz450f dirtbike. Gives you more midrange to top end. I also suggest going to yfzcentral.com, they have a full write up with pictures on how to do it.

X2 more mid to top i have noticed that when the engine is warm with the cam mod it starts kinda hard and thats with all the yfz's ive seen

Mine starts fine when it is warm. I do know that with the cam mod it starts easier if you shim one of the exhaust valves towards the bottom. Can't remember which one because I have a guy that does all my work, but that's what he says and his son races in the pro class and he's the mechanic.

that makes seance shim it so its a little tighter so you still get lift from the decompressor still........the only downfall to that is the possibility that the required maintenance on the valve lash might be a little higher.
