I just got a 2005 kfx 400 with minimal hours.. i just wanted to change the oil out and all other fluids and i have a few questions.. i no how to change it but what oil is suffiecent (maxima 10-40???) and does the kfx400 share the motor oil with the transmission or is there a separate resivoir empty and then refill? thank you for your time!

What kind of oil depends on what the temp is were you live during diffirent seasons,i live in florida i use 15w-50 keeps it running a little cooler all day, during the summer time.Your trans fluid is your motor oil go to advance auto and ask for valvoline 4-cycle motor oil DO NOT USE reg oil you will burn your clutch up fast.

Suzuki says to use a SF or SG 10 w 40 this would of course be a non synthetic oil , tho synthetic oil its the best oil for the engine but its to slippery for the clutch, yes it will work but i found that if your going to be doing a fair a mount of drag racing as i do then expect the clutch to slip.....................alot.

hard to believe a oil can be to good.

SJ or SG is the oil type that suzuki calls for.I have the manual if it had a synthic before then cont to use it, but if not then run reg 4-cycle oil,and if your in a hotter climate it should be thicker so it doesnt break down as fast.
