I'm looking to go to a 450r carb. Is there a certain year that I need to get. Don't some years us a FCR and others don't?
Thanks

06 and newer have the FCR carb

any of them honestly. The majority of them use the 04-05 but I have the 06er on mine and love it. Its will likely cost you the same to convert it so might as well get the better carb.
I wrote a how-to if you decide to go with the FCR let me know.
The easiest carb to do if you go with the FCR would be the 39mm yfz carb because its shorter than the honda 40mm......but whatever you can get the better deal on. If you decide to go that route get one without the hot start cable.

Katch- I think it was you who told me a year ago that the edelbrock was junk...I'm a believer. Anyway, where is the how-to located?

Found the HOW-TO. with the yfz carb would I still need the spacer?
Posted by: katch26
yeah you would still need it because the head comes out at an angle so the spacer would make it come out straight

the yfz carb is shorter height wise but without the space it will come in right at the frame brace where the tank bolts up

Thanks for all the info. The only thing besides jetting that I'm uncertain about now is that adapter. I'm running a 12:1 stock bore. Is that adapter not going to work since I don't have porting? Thanks.

itll work but ideally youd need to putty up the difference. The picture is deceiving....the way its set up you use 2 bolt holes to secure the adaptor and the other 2 for the carb boot. When I did mine I just lined it up and used one set of longer bolts to hold everything together which leaves a small lip.

HPD is out of the adapter and might not be making any more in the future. I might ooking into finding a stock carb to modify now unless someone knows where to find an adapter?

Ok im confused! Is the non-fcr 450r carb a bolt on whereas the fcr on needs the adapter. I keep reading stuff like below where people say its a direct bolt on....

Subject: 450r carb angle
i have ran this carb for the last 8 months and love it but haven't been able to ride that much latly .the longer it sits the harder it is to start cold .the jetting is good , valves good . is this carb sitting at more than an angle than on the 450r if so my float level might be to high and causing it to flood . i just don't want to rip it apart till i find out .thanks
if you go to where the how to was and search 450r carb over the last 10 years youll have so much info your head will explode
