Found a NOS 250r engine :-)

I was looking for a left engine case for my atc250r for a while, and today I scored a complete NOS engine out of a atc250r
This guy had some trikes that come from a Honda Dealer whose building burnd down arround '86. The engine was still in the trike, the back of the trike had some burning wounds, but the front was still perfect, also the engine is in perfect shape. Has never even been started.
The bolts of the engine, kickstarter axle, everything brand new.
Just a little dusty from sitting in a garage for more than 20 years :-)
I'll take some pictures tomorrow.

lucky
haa cant wait to see the pics

And every rubber seal in the bottom end, clutch fibers etc etc will be toast first time you kick it over due to sitting so long.
You're better off tearing the engine down and replacing all the seals in the bottom end.

yeah, that could be, I have all new seals and gastket laying arround. I'll check everything before I start it.

People say that, but i don't necessarily think that's true. I've pulled apart several engines that granted have been running but have never been pulled apart and find that they're not leaking and in really good shape. I wouldn't be too pessimistic about firing that engine...

I have one, just the 85 bottom end. I'm told the clutch plates are shot on a never run motor. Most of the seals in the motor are good. The same guy had several nos 350x motors, it all depends on how the motor was kept, some were rust filled, others perfect. The common thing was all of them, the clutch plates were shot.

I have 2 but just tore one apart for a new build. I felt bad but i HAVE ONE LEFT!!!!!!

I got a mint early motor too. Not sure what it came from though. It is all black, NO wrench marks on any of the bolts too. I got it for $500

good score john. in most cases that myth(for lack of a better word) about the seals going bad mostly applies to OLD engines that were ran early on(with a number of hours on em) and were left to set for a long time. those seals will get hard and shrink or crack up. i dont think that would apply to a never started engine but to be on the safe side i'd atleast do a leak down test(after pulling the clutch cover and inspecting the fibers) to be sure that the center case gaskets and all arent leaking.
i'll ask the question toooo. any more of those engines to be had?
Posted by: JohnBeton
this was the only 250r engine he had.
He also had about a complete 250cc 4 stroke trike, I believe it was a Big Red. Also with a complete new engine.
But he wasn't selling that for now.

Not to steal your thunder on the cool engine score, but how about a whole NOS trike!
Maybe some of you have already read about this elsewhere. Just thought I'd share for those who haven't seen an oldie in the crate. No BS this is for real!

its not mine, it belongs to a friend. back in the day when the 250r 4 wheeler was king, he was sponsered by a local dealer. it was in their back room and they couldnt sell it because of the 3 wheeler ban. a few employees were bickering over who should get it, and the owner was tired of it. my buddy rolled in just to say hi, and the owner had another employee load it up in his truck, she said "we'll talk how much later, just get it out of here" he never has seen a bill for it.
And it is for sale - if you have between 10 & 20K

now thats a score
And I was allready very happy with my nos engine
Good find !

I am looking for a side case (shifter side) for an 86 trx 250R with an ESR 370 Drag Motor in it. Any one have an extra laying around. I shot 2nd gear straight through the case and the hole is not repairable. My TIG skillz wont be able to get er' done....

Sorry, been out for a while.
I just took possession of the crated ATC 250R last week. It came from the east coast. I was in the process of doing the deal when I posted the seller's pictures. Here's a couple pics of it at my place. Pretty much same pictures, different background.
The owner bought it off a dealer over 15 years ago, and has had it sitting ever since. the dealer somehow stashed it away during the ban and saved it from demolishment. I'll be putting it up on the top bunk of one of my rack to age like a fine wine.LOL
Sorry, can't give the sale price $.
