Im a new owner of a 05 yfz 450!!!! just picked it up the other day. I moved up from my race blaster that had more to it then its really worth. But any way I want to install a KICK STARTER on the bike cuz i never trusted electric starters. So my question is were go i go to buy one!!!! and whats the best kick starter lever to use? like one from a YZ250 or something else?? Do i need to buy a decomprestion set up??? I have really no idea. so if anyone could point in the right direction that would be awesome!! THANK YOU

out of all honesty i would stick to the electric starter my buddy has an 04 yfz with this kit on it and it is a real pain. it seems like every time i am riding with him and we stop and take a break i have to push him to get it fired up again. but im not tryin to turn you away from this kit but depending on how much you ride and how hard you ride it will become a pain.

I agree...............

But you could put the kicker on it for a backup.

GYTR sells a kit, but it's cheaper to order the YZ450F parts with a YZ250 kicker.

yes it is true cuz i have the kit from the bike and save me enough to buy ASV levers and since the clutch lever comes with hot start lever i just had to get the cable and that one 50 bucks

I have a full blown race motor with gutted harness starter block off etc. and mine fires up second kick everytime hot or cold.

ya i have a buddy with a full race motor and i ride his sometimes on the track and if i wipe out or something and turns over it still fires up second kick

But how much track position have you given up, after you have given it that second kick, vs starting it back up before you stop rolling?

if u have that bad of a wreck its not gonna matter if u have jesus start dude. just put it this way ive been racing and practicing all this summer and it hasnt been a issue with me yet i just laugh when i see everyone with there electrical having problems getting bump started trying to figure out why there fuses are blown having dead batterys. i just laugh and kick my bike over and idle it to the line. why do u think i switched over to kick less **** to go wrong. im not calling u out or anything like that u have helped me before on here and i appreciate that.

No offense taken. I totally understand about switching to a kicker, and all those people who are having electrical problems at the line, probably should have one.

I guess I do a lot of maintence on my electrical system to ensure that doesn't happen.

I do know that Reed has killed it going into a corner, and has re-started before he stopped rolling, while in the lead, and I'm pretty sure he would have lost the race if he would have had to stop and kick start it.

There are many advantages in either way. You just have to weigh the pro's and con's for your application and go from there.

http://www.powerpartsplus.com/pages...-shaft-kit.aspx

this is a great deal i would jump on it if i hadnt found the kit i did

Posted by: YFZLOVER07

that kit is cheap and how much is a lever

Posted by: mxpimp2000

check on ebay search yz250 kick thats what i always search under it brings up all the yz250 kicker components and levers the only thing u need is the lever and boss that its connected to but all ive ever seen comes with them,

i also found one on there for a 1989 that was exact same as the 98 lever they go cheap on there but expensive on the forums
