Posted by: quadbod

eeeerrrrmm, an LTR is the way forward. All the guys with YFZ's will tell you they are better but I really don't think thy are.

Are you loking at new quad or second hand?

What year?

Posted by: shane071489

ive got a lot of buddies with yfzs and in my opinion mine beats them in every way i like them but wouldnt buy them against a ltr now the yfzr could be a diff story i dont know anything about it haha

Posted by: 73watermutt

I sold my '04 YFZ with Houser +2 a arms, +4 axle, Pipe, cam and other goodies after I bought my LTR. I have NO regrets.

Posted by: shane071489

i agree man ever since ive gotten mine ha theres been no other quad ive even thought about wanting besides a ktm ha and thats a big step that im not gonna make ha i dont race so i def aint paying 10 gs or close

Posted by: y-man

i will probably be getting a used one idk wut year yet though. Thanks for the info guys

Posted by: shane071489

i got an 08 and i havent had any problems (knocking on wood)

Posted by: y-man

ok thanks man appreciate it

Posted by: 73watermutt

I would look for a clean '06-'07.

Posted by: y-man

k thanks man for the info

Posted by: bosshogg1

I would go with 06,08 I have an 06 blew the motor but I will be back out there an my girl had the 07 yfz450 her bike was good to can't really talk bad about it cause they both are the sh#$ just make sure you do your research on the bike you intend on buying an make sure who or where ever you get it from make sure they kept up on the maintains of the bike

The LTR is a little more rider friendly but the YFZ feels lighter in the air to me. Pros and cons to both but they are both great machines. If you want the wider stance without the extra cost the LTR is the only way to go. And yes I have had both

Posted by: y-man

wut do u mean by rider friendly. Like its easier to handle and stuff like that.

Posted by: kfx400rider03

id get a ltr.
but im not gonna lie the new 09 yfz are nice.
but are you lookin get it used or new?

Posted by: y-man

right now im leaning towards used. Im 17 and just dont have the money for a new one right now

Posted by: IdahoMX

It has a softer seat, Smoother hit to the power, A littler better leg/foot position,no jetting head aches, Things like that.

Posted by: tyhackman15

look for an 06 LTR. They can be got stock for $3000 or under and race ready for a little more. Just put a shift pin relocater in it and you are good to go.

where are you finding these $3,000 and under LTR's? Good luck with that. In all reality you will spend around $3,500 for a decent LTR.

Posted by: y-man

ya does that have to do with the third gear or something i heard 3rd gear gos out on them after a while

Posted by: 73watermutt

From what I have read it seems 3rd gear is an issue with '08-'09's

Posted by: xtreme 250x

I have had a 06 for 2 years now. I have rebuilt the motor and transmission. Make sure you lock tite the oil lines . The shift pin locater helps with support to the engine case the engine case breaks if you land on the shifter. I have been really inpressed with my LTR. But Parts seem to be expensive to find used. Yamaha has made so many, parts are cheaper as with Honda. I just bought a used head for $300 a used honda head is about $150 . Good luck with the new bike either is a huge improvment over a 400.

i lost 1st 2nd and 3rd gears. but mines an 06 and its been ridden since 06 so it was about time. i put the shift pin relocater in it and havent had any problems since. i sold my '04 yfz to get the ltr and im sooo glad i did. the throttle response is incredible and the power is very smooth. id recomend the ltr. hope this helps.

I got my '06 LTR in great shape with full rossier, pro armor nerfs and OMF's all around for $3200 a year ago. So it can be found.

I am sure there are deals to be had but that is not the norm.

Posted by: y-man

thanks alot guys i appreciate it

Posted by: y-man

so the ltr would be good for me. I do trails and jumping. Thanks

Posted by: 73watermutt

Great jumper and great in the wide open trails but not so good in the tight stuff. It can be done but you have to watch what line you take. That's why I bought a Honda 450R for trails, gncc and harescrambles.

Posted by: y-man

ya were i live there isnt really to much tight stuff it just pretty much wide open. u think i should get ltr or trx450 thanks man for the info

Posted by: 73watermutt

For what you want to do and the area you describe I would go ahead and get the LTR. Here is a pic of my LTR and TRX450R side by side. You can see how much wider the LTR is.

alright thinks that wut i will do thanks for the help man

Posted by: 73watermutt

No problem man!

Posted by: John Noftsinger

If you got job and that kind of money you could put down 3000 on new and make payments and have a new quad no ones messed with ,just another opion ,thats what Id do. yu never know how bad the motors condition is till its too late .

Posted by: y-man

ya thanks man thats wut i was also thinking about doing. Thanks for info

Posted by: 73watermutt

If you are financing then another quad you might want to look at is the Can Am DS450X XC. I am thinking about getting one later this winter. It is a XC race ready quad. Check them out if you have not yet. Just be careful how you type in the Can Am website because if you are not just right it will pull up a gay wrestling site.

haha thanks for the heads up
