Gary

Pls help I posted this on the DRR forum but wanted to make sure I got your input.
Re-did the top end on my sons 08 90 l/c , Motor was built (ported/polished) at Kool Kids. Has Keihin 24 carb. While it was apart I also re did the clutch new 1500 ZTR spring new rollers new black malossi dog springs. My buddy is a certified BRP master tech and a whiz on snowmobiles, he helped me do the top end, while we were installing the carb he noticed the slide did not open all the way (75%), he adjusted the cable so the slide went all the way up. We finihed it up ran it through two heat cycles and tried to run it on the stand to check the clutch set up, clutch did not want to engage, finally did engae but sounded like it was sucking air at wot, shut it down and noticed alot of leakage around the pipe, am thinking that it needs a new gasket but am wondering if the adjustment we made to the carb could also be a problem? Does anyone know if the slide should only open 75% or all the way. also I do not have another exhaust gasket, anyone ever make one? If so how? Have a race this weekend and we will have to order the gasket may not be here in time. Thanks alot in advance.

1) Check to make sure the exhaust pipe is lined up on the cylinder. There is alot of room to move these pipes around making it harder to line up with the exhaust port.
2) Make sure your jetting is right. If you were running 75% of WOT and you were jetted for that then more than likely you were never correct with your main jet. The needle was never fully out of and could be too rich or lean depending on how the needle was set.

Hard to tell what you mean by sucking air though (its suppose to suck air). Does it seem like a lean bog or can you really hear some air being sucked in from another place then the carb?

As for making a gasket yes you can make one for now but would suggest getting the real deal. You can use gasket material or some high temp silicone for now, but don’t think it will last that long!

I agree with Ty except for the Gasket. We quit using exhaust gaskets a while ago and just use Red RTV silicone. Wheter or not you want to do this long term or not is up to you but it will definately get you through the weekend. Just make sure you clean the pipe and the mounting surfac e good with Brake clean first.
