Need help on DRR engine decision - Please

Currently we have a 2006 DRR 50 for my youngest daughter. We are planning to sell the hybrid we have, so both kids can share one DRR. The oldest doesn't ride much, and this would help us financially. Everyone in the family agrees this is a good decision, including both the kids.

Anyway, the 2006 50 will be the one we keep. It needs some help in the pep department though, because it doesn't get around the dunes too well.

NOW, before you tell me the DRR never will get around too well, I will tell you that we had a 2007 DRR DRX2 70 (water cooled), and it went nearly everywhere.... It was a great engine.

We need the 50 to have the same kind of get-up-n-go as the water cooled 70 did (if not more). Here are my "ON A BUDGET" options:

-Convert the 50 to a 70 with an Athena kit, and call it good. $300

-Sell the 50 engine and install a nice, upgraded air cooled 90 engine.

Like I mentioned above, we are on a budget. I already have a great carb and pipe on the 50, so I could use those on a 70 cylinder. I am just not sure how much the air cooled 70 cylinder can give me in comparison to the 50, or compared to the water cooled 70.

Before ya tell me to spend $2000 on an engine, understand that this is not a viable option for me.... I need an option that will cost $500 or less, total. Even that is a stretch....

Thanks! James

The Stage 6 Sport Pro Kit makes very strong usable power...

Pretty easy choice IMO

You will be satisfied

Okay, give me a little more.... Are you referring to the 70cc Athena with that porting? If so how much extra are we talking?

James

I have a 2006 aircooled 90cc motor that rips, it is very fast and wil pull you or your kids around the dunes, it is ready to bolt in and go..450.00 plus like 33.00 shipping, comes in under your budget, then sell your 50cc motor and you are ahead of the game, maybe only cost you 200.00 instead of 500.00.Just a thought

Okay, I am listening.... Can you tell me more about the 90 engine?

What has been done to it? Upgrades? Fixes? Problems?

I bought it on here last yearfrom GR Race, it runs on c12, it is ported/polished, high compression, runs amsoil dominator 40 to 1, we have run it as a practice motor and have had 0 problems with it, it always runs strong,I was trying to sell the whole quad as a unit, but with the economy, I think I am better off selling it out as parts, so far so well, we also have our 2008 DRR 90 that my son races, we are not getting out of racing, just dropping back to one quad instead of two, very good motor, honestly, I have never even had the head off of it,always starts right up and performed excellent. My number is 607-988-2621-evenings..Kurt

Hmm... The C12 is a problem. We are a pump gas only family.

What are the costs associated with converting the head on a DRR. I know my 250R is relatively cheap, with a removeable dome...

No porting on the Stage 6 Kit....

Email for pricing

not sure,i guess you could just buy a stock a/c head on ebay for next to nothing, but this combo likes the race gas,you might be better off with the stage 6 kit, I don't know what you need to run for fuel in that though, just thought I would throw another option out there for you thats all.

Thanks for the option.... I am talking with Gary about the stage 6. I forgot to mention to him that I need to run pump gas....

I am interested in the stage 6 cylinder kit for our water cooled 08 DRR 90 as well, they say it is very good

Posted by: rebuiltoz

we got the stage 6 cylinder kit from gary about 3 weeks ago. we put it on a 08 50 l/c and it really pepped it up. it really helped bottom and top all around good decision. dont know about the 90 but great for the 50. my sons race buddy plans on putting one on his 70 l/c.

Posted by: mudder700

what do you need to run for gas, what octane?

Posted by: thedeatons

I had been considering going with the 70 kit for our 50.... 20 extra CCs never hurt....

More info on the Sport Stage 6?!?!?
