2004 sportsman 500 starting

i have a 2004 sportsman 500 and we just put a new battery in it and when you turn the key you can hear a click but it wont turn over and it starts when you pull start it and i think its the stator thats bad bc it wont even spark when you touch a screw driver to the 2 nuts on the stator. let me know what you think it is
