Hey everyone, I'm a new member here at exriders, but I need help. I need to replace my stock chain on my 2001 300ex, but I'm not sure what lenght I need. I called the Honda Dealership and they said it has to be a 520 chain but didn't know the length. I counted the links on my chain and there was 42 links, so does that me I need an 84 link chain, which would include the middle and outside links? I know I could just by a bigger chain and take links out, but I don't want to have to do that. I run a 14 sprocket in the front and a 39 in the back, which have already been ordered, I just need to know what lenght chain I need now... Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanx

I need to order the chain today, to have it ready for the time the trails open here in Maine, please help....

if you counted 42 links then you need a 42 link chain give or take, depending on sprockets, length of swing arm

That's what I thought too, but when I go to order it from Rockymountainatv.com, they don't offer a 520x42, they have a 520x84, and that is what makes me think that I the chain length is measured with both outside and inside links... I think I may just by a 100, and remove links from there... What do you think?

Are you going to order one or actually go somewhere and buy a chain?
If you go somewhere to buy it, take the old chain with you and then compare.
Obviously get one longer and then you can go from there.

I found it online, after two hours of looking, its a 520x86 length o-ring chain, thanks anyways!

you won't find a 42 link chain unless its used, usually you have to by a longer chain then break it to what ever lehgth you need
