Questions from a newbie. Looking to purchase some new toys and looking at the Sportsman line. I live in Phoenix -1500’ and have property in Flagstaff – 7000’. What model would work best – Carb or Fuel injection? Also how reliable are they? Can I work on them myself or do they need to go to a shop for most repairs?

EFI.. and if you have any mechanical ability you will do fine working on it.

Hard to say with reliability issues. They all have lemons out there.

My '01 Sportsman had tons of miles and had been swamped numerous times. Plowed snow with it every winter. I had it for 7 years. The only thing that ever needed replaced was tie rod ends and rear wheel bearings(no more power spraying!!). Never had to change the belt!

Oh, the clutch buttons broke so I replaced the factory nylon ones with the aluminum "bulletproof" ones from HPD. But I was jumping the thing so that was my doing as well as the bearings.
Tie rod ends...well....they just go bad.
