Full Throttle In Forward Sounds Like Rev Limited Reverse

I have an 05 Suzuki LTZ400 that will start up and idle normally, yet sputter when I apply full throttle. The engine sounds like it would if you hit full throttle in reverse. It has that rev limited sound and feel to it. What could be causing this?

Also, occasionally I smell gas coming from the float bowl drain tube. Do you think a little 44k will clear this up or should I pull the carb and drop the bowl? I prefer not to pull the carb but will if I have to.

what gear are you in while applying full throttle
If its not 5th then you might be hitting the rev limiter

In neutral for now...
I have to install a new bearing carrier, chain, and rear sprocket before I can test drive her. Parts are on the way though.

In any case, where I used to get a strong hiv rev engine feel and sound, I get the rev limiter.
