Looking to by a used 660 that's local to me. In talking to the seller he stated that it has had a knock for the last year that has gotten progressively worse. He says it runs strong though. I asked about smoke or oil coming from the exhaust-NO. I asked if the motor had ever been opened-NO. Suggestions or thoughts?

Unless you know how to work on it I say avoid it like a plague!

I am pretty good at tearing down and rebuilding but... If it is not smoking and no oil is coming out of the exhaust, what else could the knock be? lso are these valves shim under or are they like the Honda's and are adjustable by a screw? I thought about asking him if he'd mind me adjusting the valves on the spot if it were easy like the Honda.

front

I wouldnt go more than $1200. If they haven't cared enough to take care of stuff like front tires do you really think they cared enough to change oil? Let alone checking the valves.

Good point.

they have trans issues too. the gears go for big money on ebay from strong demand.........

id buy that doe 1200. prob even 1500. valves prob just need t be adjusted. if its more then you got urself a big bore. and besides i thought the 01's were the tranny probs not 03? and you could easily part out a raptor if worse comes to worse and get 1200 back. jmo
