Im thinking of having my rims pc black.... do you think it would look good? I kinda wanna make my quad look like Chris Borich's 250r... what ya think?

Posted by: Pappy

his quad does look sweet

Posted by: Pappy

here is a side shot

Posted by: Sparks425Ex

Isn't anadizing rim better then pcing them?

Which will hold up better?

Posted by: Porkchop

i'd think pc would be alot cheaper.. but im not sure

lets see what Pappy has to say

Posted by: Pappy

if it were my rims.....i would get out a can of krylon primer, black and clear i will do a set of rims i have here in the next few days to check it out

i like chrome or polished rims maself

Posted by: Porkchop

thats what it is all about!!!! i personally dont know how they will hold up ive seen pc'd factory rims and they do fine.
i will dust off the itp's i have and shoot them for ya to see.

Posted by: Porkchop

ok cool!

only thing i'd be worried about is dents.. would it do anything to the pc or finish?

Posted by: Pappy

a dent shouldnt hurt it. what my concern is....if you ride in mud. if it gets a lil deep it will act like sandpaper and start eroding away the finish. i geuss its no worse then chrome....but ya cant just polish pc.

Posted by: Porkchop

good point....... maybe ive changed my mind

Porkchop, I have gloss black powdercoated my rear rims and I love'em! I also have a set of fronts that are powdercoated silver hammer, that is like a sliver background with little streaks of black on it. I wax mine pretty good too. Yeah , if you scratch it out riding some paint may come off, but for the price I paid ($50) for 2, I think it looks badazz! But, I love the black rims, I just can't afford to buy black rims ( I think they only make a beadlock in black) It is different and that it what makes it stand out. I don't regret at all painting my rims. Oh yeah, just make sure to keep them pretty clean.

Posted by: Pappy

redroost...post a pic

Posted by: Sparks425Ex

Yeah Post a pic

Posted by: Porkchop

yes please post a pic!

Posted by: OutlawEX

ya come on post a pic buddy:blah

Posted by: redroost85

Porkchop and other dudes, Man I wish I could post a pic but I don't have a digital cam or a scanner. Dang fat *** Santa didn't bring one neither! I just did it to be different and I love black rims. I only have a 250, but it gets some second glances from other dudes at the track. Sorry guys, no pics. I am glad to see that I am not the only one who thinks black rims kick ***!

Posted by: "2-R's Rider"

I'll be gettin my stock set done soon ..just have not decided on color yet ....thinking about black or red or yellow or ..

Posted by: roost on you

these are the wheels i have on my R. Holding up well. Even took a shot to the inside, small bend/dent and no chipping

Well guys You have forgotten one of the most durable coatings of all, spray on bed-liner! I know it sounds stupid but look at the abuse that stuff can take!

Posted by: toby400ex

i would only get it pced if the wheels are new, but when i get some money after buying my 400ex, i will get my front wheels black somehow,, and try to get some rear hipers, those things are saweeeeeeeeettttttt.:blah

they werent supposed to be sparkles i made a booboo

Posted by: gun32boarder

how much to do rims and did you get the annodizing yet

Posted by: Pappy

they are easy to do....i would imagine a solid color would run like $20 a rim.

i would still like to try these out before i do anyone elses....im just like that but i think they will do fine.

Posted by: gun32boarder

can you clear pc them after you do the black?

Posted by: Pappy

yep. in fact...thats how the sparkes got there.....i was rushing and grabbed the wrong bottle of clear when i peeked in the oven...i was like...oh *****

Posted by: gun32boarder

i saw that bumper at high point gncc in person. it was defitly annodized and looked sweeeeet! anyone on here do these finishes?

Posted by: erac4019

Hey Pappy, I am thinking about PCing my rims too, but I'm afraid that when I mount my tires I'll scratch the PC off of the lip of the rims. Did you mount tires on the rims you did yet?

Posted by: Pappy

no i sure havent. i too am concerned....but if i do it by hand and try not to use a tire spoon it maybe ok. this brings up the point i made earlier as to what rocks and debris will do to the overall finish also. i know its tuff.....but even clearcoat looks crappy when it gets the chit scratched outta it

i would imagine pc would work better on beadlocks as there is no need to use spoons for mounting.....ummmm......gloss black with high polished beadlocks...:devil

Posted by: erac4019

How on earth do you mount a tire w/o spoons? I can't even change a bicycle tire without them!...lol. The beadlocks w/ polished bead does sound bad *****. But for the cost of new beadlocks I can get new fr shocks.

Posted by: Pappy

i have a set of fiberglass spoons for use on high dollar aluminum wheels. i imagine that will work. also....lots of lube

get the shocks...you wont regret it

Posted by: Luzinski

Hey Guys, this might sound a little stupid but, how do the spoons work and where can I get a set of them? I am tired of paying the shop 8 bucks every time I have to remoce tires or put a new set on.

Posted by: Pappy

sears sells them....i got mine from my MAC tools driver. tell them you are looking for tire spoons

Posted by: Sparks425Ex

It looks great Kenny. Let us know how they hold up.

Posted by: erac4019

Did you mount them up yet? Just wondering how it went. I also wanted to know if it would be possible to mask off the lip and only pc the inside of the rim or if you had to pc the entire piece?

Posted by: Pappy

i dunno...i will try taping off one

i did not mount the other rims. i did a set for a trike...he mounted his tires and was ridin in the snow yesterday i havent seen them....but i will check them out.

Posted by: erac4019

Cool, let me know
