I need some info on what kind of paddles i should get, i want a kind of aggressive paddle for good hook-up, but dont want to sacrafice speed with a big bulky tire.

I will be in soft fluffy sand on the oregon dunes, winchester,florence,sandlake,ect...

Im stuck between, skat-track 8 or 10 paddle haulers, skat-track edge 8paddle (v-blade type), sand star or sand shark

also i seen kenda has got a dune runner paddle tire and it looks just like a hauler, anybody using those cuz there like less than half the price of a hauler.

Oh and they would be going on a trx450r

The best hook-up is with a straight bar paddle. i.e. hauler style.

If you want to be able to spin the back end around a touch easier get some type of v-paddle.

I have heard from a few that a quad with enough power and with a decent rider won't have a problem spinnig the back end around.

As far as the number of paddles goes... at least 8 for a 450r if not more. Anything with less paddles would likely have more benefit for lesser powered machines.

A 8 paddle extreme hauler would work well with your 450r. 10 paddle would be too much, IMO.

8 paddle extreme hauler, absolutely the best paddle for your bike. I had the sandstars, they were bunk, switched to the haulers and will never buy any other paddle. they are superior to the turbo paddle because the turbo paddle is molded and does not flex at all, less hookup for sure.

I would also have to agree with the Extremes.. we run 9 paddles on 10" wheels. I run this setup on the Raptor 700 and my wife's YFZ 450.

pretty much what i thought, but i was kind looking at the skat-track egde (v-blade) they look like they would have awesome hook up.

But i still think im gona get some haulers

Just from my own experience, for the $ the Sand Stars work just as good if not better then the Skat Trak Edges..

I dont think you will regret it. I am considering getting rid of my sand stars and getting a 6 or 8 paddle, paddle brat. I am also a fan of the 8inch wheel. IMO, it feels as though it gets up on the sand faster (or floats faster).

It sucks the sidewalls in and makes the tire more rounded and not so flat. This helps in the flotation process and gets the tire up and on top of the sand quicker for less rolling resistance.

The larger the diameter (or some refer to as "roll out") gives you better gearing effect and more spacing between the paddles. This allows for more "slip" between each bite, so that the tires dont "DIG" so deep and allow the tire to spin more revolutions, thus keeping your RPM's up and on the power band.

8 paddle reg hauler will work fine. the extremes will slow you down a bit(less flex in the paddle). 9 paddle is too much for a 450.

Unless you just want to spend extra money buy Sand Stars for the stock 400.. They will work great and won't break the bank.. The 8 paddle straights might be too much paddle anyway.

8 straight paddle is not too much if its a 20", but your right the sand stars(even sand sharks) work awsome.

lots of good recommendations so far, but the original poster didn't state what type of riding he'll be doing.

for drag racing, hillshooting, or mostly straight-line riding, a straight paddle will be your ticket. as said, haulers are probably the best for this.. but having paddles glued onto a carcass, lack some durability.. be careful here if your dunes have debris.

for cornering, high-marking, and general buzzing around, a v-style will give you more predictable control.. predictable being the key word. i originally ran turbo's (molded straight-paddle), and i would be cornering with them and they would suddenly break loose, due to the lack of lateral traction.

i am not a drag racer, so i now run sand stars and love them. i've never known anyone who've run the v-style skat's, but i have to imagine they're a great tire too.

I had the v-style Skat-trak's on my 440ex and they worked great! Excellent hook up and good handling. Don't recall how many paddles off the top of my head. Switched to a set of Extreme's (straight blade) / 6 paddle and I love them as well. Excellent hook up and I can still slide them out in the turns very easy. Just got to use that body english

I honestly didn't notice that much of a difference. Might be due to them being 6 paddle, there is still enough smooth surface between the paddles to allow it to kick out. Better to be under paddled than too many paddles. I go 8 on a 450 if you go with the extreme's. They do seem very durable as well. I ordered mine from fulerton sand sports down in CA. Just call them and talk to them and they will made the right recommendation for you.

If you want to spend big coin, but have the least rotating mass (i,e) least power robbery, he will recommend the "paddle a brat" (spelling?). I felt I was spending enough as it was...

Im runnin 20x10x10 10 paddle extreme haulers on my 3 mod ds450, Plently of power to spin them and i love them better then the itp sand stars! i use them for trail riding/hill climbs/drag racin!

Get a hold of Dave or Joe at Fullerton sand tires and get the sraight talk, look if your hill shooter straight paddles, for overall play dunning , Edges 7 or 8 paddle or Sand Skates, if you want the best play tire here it is SS 1 comp Play Grooved
I have a set on my DS730 and my LT500 my son runs the SS on his 4Trax
That lil paddle is nothing like the ITP, in fact the ITP lil paddle is on the other side , with SS comp Grooved, you get more forward bite on the hill, and still get the beni's of turning with a directional paddle, plus they still spin in the dunes

Those guys over in Fullerton, CA definitely know what they are talking about but talk about EXPENSIVE!!! I think I paid like $350-$400 for my 400ex paddles. They are original Sand Skate 1's. They are big, fat and have to cut them down. Probably the best sand tire out for a 400ex because they float so well and have smaller paddles.

depends, get in writting they seal and hold air and what condition the paddles are in , they now run 90 - 150 a tire now

I sold a nice set of 22 x 11 x 10 edges for 120, the guy was blown what great condition they were in, BTW I bought em with Rims for 160 sold the rims for 70

But the Best Dune Play Tire is the 7 Paddle Edges 20 x 11 x 9

Sand Skats 11 are nice set on the Mojave and the Blaster, be carefull JR had to ride on hard pack and killed a set (Dum A zz) edges can be repaired

curtis sparks has a paddle tire called padle brat. they are by far the best paddle tire you can buy. the only thing is they are on the pricey side. super lite weight, great hookup.
